no doubt there are guys on here who know more, but I thought it might be interesting to some

mods - this is my first OP, if its wrong in some way - let me know
Im not selling anything here

Me: hi [name]
Me: thanks for adding me
Email Guy: Hello
Email Guy: How are you?
Me: good
Me: how are you ?
Email Guy: Great here. Thanks.
Me: good
Me: I use IEM
Me: basic installation
Me: I send out maybe 1000 emails in a day
Me: they are scraped emails from websites, etc
Me: I think maybe I should use an IP rotation script or something
Email Guy: Do you have a VPS or Dedicated server?
Me: yes dedicated
Email Guy: Sure
Email Guy: How many IP's do you have?
Email Guy: and What's your O.S.?
Me: [Im a new member cant put links]
Me: I think just 1 IP
Me: oh, actually I might be using amazon services
Email Guy: If you are going to use amazon SES
Email Guy: there is no need to rotate IPs
Me: ok
Email Guy: since Amazon SES rotate their smtp
Email Guy: automatically
Email Guy: but, if you do scrapping from web
Email Guy: I don't think amazon would be good
Me: is the reason a risk of penalty?
Email Guy: Yes, they charge you money or something like that.
Email Guy: I am not totally sure
Me: ok
Me: what do you recommend?
Email Guy: Well, your best shot would be rotate the IPs having 5 IPs or more would be good
Me: do you have a provider you would recommend?
Email Guy: [edited, PM me for detail]
Email Guy: from Netherlands
Email Guy: They don't care too much about complaints.
Me: ok
Me: and deliverability wont be a problem?
Email Guy: No, their IPs are clean
Email Guy: anyway, it depends on your configuration
Email Guy: dkim + spf
Email Guy: etc
Me: hmm
Me: can I ask you more questions
Me: Id like to pay you for an hour of your time
Me: as "consulting"
Me: just to start
Me: for questions and answers
Email Guy: Ok, go ahead
Me: ok so
Me: I dont have a large budget for this project
Me: which server do you recommend for ~1000 emails a day
Email Guy: You can start with a vps
Email Guy: If you still want to rotate IPs
Email Guy: I would say:
Email Guy: [edited, PM me for detail]
Email Guy: they all come with 5 ips
Me: ok
Me: so I use this instead of [edited, PM me for detail]
Me: ?
Email Guy: If you would send 1000 a day
Email Guy: that would be good to start
Email Guy: and cheaper
Me: I see
Email Guy: for you
Email Guy: You can handle like 5,000 emails a day with that kind of vps
Me: if I sent 20k, than [edited, PM me for detail] would be better?
Email Guy: they are xen virtualization
Email Guy: You can send 20k of emails in that vps
Email Guy: not in an hour
Email Guy: but 4 o5 hours for 20k of emails
Email Guy: is good
Email Guy: since they are xen virtualization
Email Guy: the rotation would be with iptables
Me: I see
Me: is this using a script?
Email Guy: no, iptables is the firewall
Email Guy: need to set rules to forward the emails
Email Guy: every 5 secons
Email Guy: will changes the ips
Me: ok
Me: and this is something you can help me with?
Email Guy: Sure
Me: ok
Me: now
Me: let me ask you something else
Me: If I continue to send 1000 emails a day on my one IP
Me: what will happen
Me: edited is my provider
Email Guy: edited i've worked with them a few years ago
Email Guy: They don't tolerate many complaints
Me: I see
Email Guy: When you got many complaints they will suspend your service
Email Guy: Without any warning
Email Guy: Because they don't forward you complaints
Email Guy: That's why I said [edited, PM me for detail] is better
Email Guy: because whenever someone complaint about your ip or hostname
Me: I have been spamming for a while with edited, havent got many complaints
Email Guy: this guys forward you the email with the complaint
Me: well, none that I know of
Me: I have only sent maybe 200k emails lifetime through edited
Email Guy: Well, that was my experience with them
Email Guy: I wasn't sending spam anyway
Email Guy: but they didn't liked it
Email Guy: they suspended me 3 servers that I had with them
Me: its not true spam like, porn pills poker, etc
Me: its a legitimate offer/business I have
Me: but its not opt in, etc
Me: so some people might complain its spam
Me: alright next
Me: lets say I use one of these servers
Me: and setup IEM on there
Me: what costs am I looking at to setup the IP rotator?
Email Guy: You mean, to pay me?
Me: I guess so
Email Guy: or if they are going to charge you something?
Me: your charge to me
Me: approx is OK
Email Guy: Just to set the ip to rotate?
Email Guy: nothing more?
Me: I just dont know if its $5, $50, $500 or $50000
Email Guy: you will set up linux, mta, and everything else?
Me: probabaly not
Email Guy: if it's just to rotate the IPs I would charge you $150
Email Guy: but if you want me to set everything for you
Me: what about the other things that are needed
Email Guy: I would say, $450
Me: sure
Me: can you explain to me what MTA is?
Email Guy: mail transport agent (mta)
Me: just very general is OK
Email Guy: the software used by your server to send out emails
Email Guy: can be: postfix, qmail, sendmail, powermta, etc
Me: I see
Me: is powerMTA the preferred?
Email Guy: PowerMTA is a great piece of software, but is really expensive.
Me: ah
Email Guy: And requires a powerful server
Me: I see
Me: whats best for my case?
Email Guy: 4GB at minimum of RAM
Email Guy: I would say postfix
Email Guy: I've tried qmail, sendmail a few others
Email Guy: and I gotta say that I preffer postfix
Me: what are the costs of postfix?
Me: oh, open source
Me: just curious, how much is MTA?
Email Guy: powermta?
Me: yes
Me: sorry powerMTA
Email Guy: well
Email Guy: 25,000 usd per year
Email Guy: or so
Me: wow
Email Guy: if you would implement powermta is because you really have busines with email marketing
Email Guy: mailchimp
Email Guy: uses it
Email Guy: that's why they can change the headers
Email Guy: of the emails
Me: like 1 million emails a day plsu?
Email Guy: powermta let you do big things
Email Guy: 1 million a day is easy
Email Guy: let's say 1 billion
Me: ha
Me: ok
Me: I dont understand, "change the headers"
Email Guy: email headers
Email Guy: from field
Email Guy: and bounces
Email Guy: and reply email
Email Guy: those kind of things you need to make a sure they work well
Email Guy: when you offer send emails on behalf of your service
Me: it seems like I do that with IEM
Me: well, I create my own
Me: ok next
Me: is linux the preferred server to setup?
Email Guy: yes
Email Guy: Linux is more flexible
Email Guy: and you can do easy and quicker things there
Me: ok I made odesk job for you for 1 hr
Me: just accept and I will pay you know
Me: it should be --not incl odesk fee
Me: so make it --- or whatever if you want
Me: is there any programs alternative to IEM you would recommend?
Email Guy: Ok, done.
Email Guy: Yes
Email Guy: I am actually
Email Guy: trying with
Email Guy: Active Campaign
Email Guy: I found several options that Interspire does not have that seems to be good
Email Guy: like fbls management
Email Guy: of course, you have to enroll your IPs first
Me: what is fbls management?
Email Guy: fbl = feedback loops
Email Guy: These are provides by the major ISP
Email Guy: You enroll your IPS of your server where you send out emails
Email Guy: and companies like: hotmail, comcast, yahoo, aol
Email Guy: will forward you an email
Email Guy: whenever a user complaints
Email Guy: about your mailing
Me: ok
Email Guy: so you can remove or unsubscribe that user
Email Guy: and get a good reputation of your IP
Me: I see
Me: so a fbl is kind of like an API between ISPs for complaints
Email Guy: not an api , is more likely a feedback program
Email Guy: and works good
Me: so, can you intercept these before they get to your ISP?
Email Guy: less complaints = good delivery
Me: or just view them
Email Guy: you view them and you can remove them
Me: I see
Email Guy: so your reputation is better
Email Guy: and
Email Guy: your hosting provider
Me: do you send a report to your ISP letting them know?
Email Guy: don't suspend your service
Email Guy: no
Email Guy: they don't neeed to know
Me: I see
Email Guy: as long as you take care of the complaints
Email Guy: if not
Email Guy: they simple suspend you
Me: who sees that I removed the complaint first
Me: the other ISP?
Email Guy: is like this:
Email Guy: hosting provider ---> you -----> hotmail (fbl)
Email Guy: so, hotmail will forward to you, if you enroll your ips to your name
Email Guy: and you can take care of them, they allow you 24 - 72 hours to remove them in most of the cases
Email Guy: if you don't remove them, they forward those complaints to your hosting provider
Me: I see
Me: interesting
Me: and with IEM, you never get them?
Email Guy: it does not depend from IEM
Email Guy: you can get them with IEM
Email Guy: the thing is
Email Guy: IEM does not process those complaints like bounces
Email Guy: you know, iem process bounces
Me: yes
Email Guy: but cannot process fbl complaints
Me: what does it do with FBL?
Email Guy: active campaign seems that it process it
Email Guy: well
Email Guy: you have to do it manually
Me: I see
Email Guy: and when you recive like
Email Guy: 100 complaints daily
Email Guy: is kind of tired thing
Email Guy: to remove them
Me: enrolling the IPs to my name, who do I contact to do that?
Me: I see, and ActiveCampaign manages these fbls automatically
Email Guy: yes
Email Guy: there are like 10 major providers of fbls
Email Guy: yes
Email Guy: your name
Me: do I tell my ISP that I want to enroll the ISP to my name?
Email Guy: no
Email Guy: you do it by your own
Email Guy: wait a sec
Me: sure
Email Guy: [edited becuase Im new member, cant post links]
Email Guy:[edited becuase Im new member, cant post links]
Email Guy: [edited becuase Im new member, cant post links]
Me: oooh I get it
Email Guy: [edited becuase Im new member, cant post links]
Email Guy: [edited becuase Im new member, cant post links]
Email Guy: [edited becuase Im new member, cant post links]
Me: so its not that I tell my ISP to enroll my name, I enroll my name with all the other people instead
Me: so they have my information on their side
Me: not request it from my ISP
Me: and when someone complains, what do I show them?
Me: do I send them an email confirming removal or something?
Email Guy: no
Email Guy: they forward you the email
Email Guy: and you will see the email of the complainer
Email Guy: so you copy that email
Email Guy: and mark as unsubscribed on interspire
Email Guy: put on supression list
Email Guy: or remove it
Email Guy: whatever works better to you
Me: ok
Me: so
Me: my reputation is good on my end
Me: my ISP never sees it this way
Me: but how does the sending fbl know if I did anything or not?
Email Guy: Oh
Email Guy: you see
Email Guy: if you enroll to hotmail
Email Guy: for exmaple
Me: yes
Email Guy: and you send a message to
Email Guy: email
Email Guy: let's say my email
Email Guy: and I got it to the inbox
Email Guy: I open it
Email Guy: and I found that I have not susbscribed to any list
Email Guy: so, I press "junk" button
Email Guy: that's a complaint
Email Guy: for hotmail
Me: ok
Email Guy: and that's the email that will be forwarded to you
Me: ok
Me: so hotmail sends to me
Me: now you said, if I dont do anything in 24-72 hours they will FWD to my ISP
Me: how do they know if I did anything or not?
Me: i.e. ignored, or suppressed email
Email Guy: they will know if you do not send an email again to that account
Email Guy: email address
Me: I see
Email Guy: if you send another email to that acount
Email Guy: means
Email Guy: that you didn't do anything
Me: I see
Me: so IEM processes bounced
Me: but does not process FBL
Email Guy: yea
Email Guy: there are addons
Me: so I am likely to send twice
Email Guy: to IEM
Email Guy: to process fbls
Email Guy: and others things
Me: I see
Email Guy: but they are really expensive
Me: I have never found a marketplace for these scripts
Me: it seems like most of them are custom made
Email Guy: yeah
Email Guy: well
Email Guy: not that
Email Guy: if iem does not process fbls
Email Guy: automatically
Email Guy: you can do it manually
Email Guy: like this:
Email Guy: whenever they forward a complaint
Email Guy: it should go to
Email Guy: abuse at email domain
Email Guy: so
Email Guy: you can open that email account
Email Guy: and see all the complaints
Email Guy: you copy the email
Email Guy: and remove it from your lists
Me: ok
Email Guy: if you want to check the reputation of your ip
Email Guy: senderscore dot org
Me: nice site
Me: I am curious why there isnt a site selling IEM scripts
Me: maybe they dont want to "break" the market
Email Guy: is because
Email Guy: every server needs customizations
Me: I see
Email Guy: You cannot sell the same script to all the people
Email Guy: because that might don't work
Email Guy: if it's for linux
Email Guy: won't work for windows
Me: that makes sense
Email Guy: so, needs to evaluate first the customer server
Me: ok my time is almost up
Me: is there anything else you want to recommend to me to look at?
Me: I have my own tools for email harvesting
Me: later I will show you my method
Me: I think my harvesting is really advanced, but sending is primitive
Email Guy: huh... maybe if you want to set a monitor to your ips for blacklist
Email Guy: [edited, new member cant post links]
Email Guy: I think you can find it there
Me: ok
Email Guy: Since you send email to scrapper emails, i would recommend to enroll your ip to those fbls I've sent you
Email Guy: you will find that it is useful
Email Guy: since
Email Guy: if you remove emails
Email Guy: you get
Me: yes, is that all the fbls I should enroll to for now?
Email Guy: more reputation and speed on sending
Email Guy: hotmail, yahoo and aol
Email Guy: majors providers
Me: when I start ou
Me: out*
Me: is there a certain email speed I should go with
Me: or
Email Guy: It basically depends on the smtp configuration
Email Guy: Let's say
Me: does it matter how many, how fast I send on day 1, vs day 100
Email Guy: You are using mediatemple service
Email Guy: So, you have plesk panel if you use a dv
Email Guy: server
Email Guy: means speed is less
Email Guy: and you have qmail
Email Guy: and lots of email on queue
Email Guy: you should send 500 - 1000 per hour
Email Guy: if you get news ips
Email Guy: you need to warm them up first
Email Guy: with 500 - 1000 per hour
Email Guy: after 2 or 3 weeks
Email Guy: you can start sending 3000 emails per hour
Email Guy: and to avoid bottleneck you need to optimize your server
Email Guy: or try to send 1000 per hour
Me: is it the # of emails that "warms them up" or # of days?
Email Guy: 2 or 3 weeks more or less
Email Guy: less time if you send mailing daily
Me: ok
Me: well, I want to use you for next server
Me: last question
Me: tell me a little more about you
Email Guy: Well, I have more than 5 years working as system administrator, targeting to email delivery as a consultant.
Email Guy: I have my own company in my country: [edited]
Email Guy: and I've helped many people on my country to develop their email marketing service
Me: I like your site design
Email Guy: and then I started to lookup people outside my country via oDesk , if you check my feedbacks they all are related to servers, interspire, mailing
Email Guy: and some of them web design and programming stuff
Email Guy: I sometimes develop websites
Email Guy: on wordpress, joomla, plone and others cms
Me: Ill share with you my email harvesting tactic later on
Me: I THINK its very interesting, but maybe you have seen such a system before
Me: it could be boring to you
Me: I rarely see it used in spam ot me
Email Guy: Sure, show it to me whenever you have time, maybe I have used before if not, it would be good to test it
Email Guy: I will show you active campaign too
Me: ok great
Email Guy: if you like it you can test it
Me: thanks for the consultation
Email Guy: No problem, anytime
Me: can I message you later if I want to get something else?
Email Guy: Sure
Me: great
Me: also message me anytime
Email Guy: if you don't find me here
Email Guy: my email
Email Guy: -------------
Me: let me send you test right now
Me: just so its in my records
Email Guy: ok
Email Guy: Ok, I got it and answered you
Me: quick

Great info but sorry to be bitchy: emailing was not an allowed topic last time I checked... ;)

Very interesting, thanks mate for the share.
Also sent you a PM for further chatting.

Why would they have to PM you! I don't understand your logic. If you were helping people you should of just left the information in the post.

I would love to have left the information in the post, but the system wont allow me to post links, etc

it took me 20 mins to keep going back and erase links, etc etc

Hello Matt, thanks for sharing. As for links in stead of deleting them you could edit them by replacing say dots with stars. I am interested to get the info you have edited out.
