My computer is slow... why?

So, I have a pretty nice computer, hardware wise, but I can't seem to make my computer faster.

I have spybot and adaware and I scan them regularly. I have an auto defrag, and my computer is still slow.

I have an i7, 12 gig ram, tri sli video cards, and still.... it crawls at a snails pace.


Is there something I am missing that I can use to speed up my computer? I always see commercials advertising services, but I'm sure they are all doing something incredibly easy. I wish I knew what that was.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe you have too many programs running on startup. Auto defrag? Why would you have something like that running when you shouldn't need to defrag unless you notice an issue.

You should look into hiring a college student to come to your house for $20.00 and have a look at it, because that clearly isn't right. Something is wrong with either your hardware or software.
 
Is it your computer that's slow or the Interent?

What kind of processor do you have? You need a dual core or better at least...
 
I have an intel i7. I have stopped all of the startup program that I don't need as well.


It affects not only the internet, but my whole computer as well. However, most of what I do is on the internet anyway.

Browsers (I have tried mozilla, IE, Chrome and Rockmelt and the all have the same issue. Slow start ups and loading of webpages. Flash websites, in particular, love to crash my computer)
 
Trying running a full Spyware and Anti-Virus scan. And then use a program like CCleaner to clean up some unneeded files, and clean up your registry. And then use a program like Defraggler to defrag your computer.

Yes, I have tried that as well. A while back, I did notice a lot of dust and once I cleared that out it helped it quite a bit. However, that is no longer the issue as it is clean as a whistle now.

To be honest, you are going to have to pay someone to look into it. Just make a craiglist posting looking to hire a college student. Tell them you will only pay them IF they make your system much faster. I bet you will get a lot of replies. Verify they actually go to a local university or college, then invite them over for a visit and let them tinker for a bit under your supervision.
 
If you don't have any problem with software then it might be hardware problem and I believe you still have your warranty... Ask dealer or company to check it and they will solve your problem...

Also for internet may be you got slow connection ask your ISP or try speed checking...
 
reinstall the drivers from manufacturers websites, if you installed those which came with your motherboard, especially network card drivers, if you have slow internet problems
 
Use these free software to clean the shit outta your computer.

Recommended downloads:

1) Malware Bytes Antimalware - Get rid of bullshit.
2) Defraggler - Run this about once a month.
3) CCleaner
4) Soluto - Speed up Windows boot time by removing unnecessary apps from startup.

Did you have this issue when you first purchased your pc as in it only recently slowed down, if it's always been slow reckon drivers would sort it out if not clean registry, startup do a few windows tweaks and you'll be good to go, i've always liked tuneup for speeding up things up, choose the performance profile and it will come up with loads of suggestions
 
I have seen a real monster computer slow down to a crawl because of a faulty network card. Dell put a special network card in. It failed. We then plugged into his onboard network port ad it was slow. Apparently the software for the addon network card kept looking for it so it slowed everything down.

Perhaps you are plugged into an onboard network card while you have an addon available. Sounds like a monster cp you have there.
 
how many watts is the power supply that came with it? it's usually one of the last things that someone would check, but believe it or not, it could be the problem. you said tri sli so im assuming that you meant 3 graphics cards, then add on the power consumption from the mobo, cpu, hard drives etc etc and it might be adding up to more power than your psu can constantly sustain. that would also explain why it crashes when you visit graphically intense websites. the more graphically intense, the more cpu and gpu power it needs which means more strain on the psu and when it can't provide the power, it screws everything up and causes a crash. it happened with a build that i built back in the day, i thought it was a faulty hard drive, but it turned out the psu wasn't pumping out enough power to run all the hardware in the computer properly and it was causing crashes. so, it would be a good idea to look into that also.
 
my Power supply is 1000W. I had one that was 850 that blew out so I replaced it with that monster.
 
For starters, adaware sucks...it slows your computer down..

2, you probably have a virus , because nothing makes any sense as to
why a computer with your specs is slow..

3, What anti virus do you have? ..(Get yourself Eset)

4, When you use Spybot, finish and make sure to close it.

5,You probably got a Virus..

(run Malwarebytes full version)
 
Have you ran through your process list in task manager, sometimes there's some unneeded process's going on and or if you've recently had some documents going to printer that never finished using up power, search for print spooler in process.

Also, sometimes restarting after you've let it hang live for a while will do the trick, your cpu can be locked up and running 100% and causing slow propegation.

And, I also agree above that there maybe a potential virus deep in the registry, try those tools listed above, malwarebytes etc.

Also, have you added up your components combined power usage to make sure you have enough power, sounds like you got a pretty hefty system
