My competitor ranking no.1 with no backlinks how?

My competitor (local market) is ranking no.1 with absolutely no backlinks (checked in ahrefs)
how is this done?
are they doing it through redirecting other domains and pointing them to the ranking domain or something like that?

if so how can I find out what the redirecting domains are?

is there a way to trace them?

any help would be great !!

Good On-site SEO , Content etc probably.

If it was a re-direct I'm pretty sure it would show up in the backlinks profile..
 
What sort of competition is it? What about the other sites in top 5?

the site is only six pages, and hardly any on page SEO! confusing i know.

would a 301 redirect show up in hrefs tho? i wouldnt think so.

the competition is low m8.

its a local keyword so top 5 are:

1 competitor (exact match domain, like "builders in Manchester") PR 0
2 me PR 1
3 site that provides training to construction industry PR3
4 yell.com
5 gumtree.com

any ideas guys?
 
As far as I know, local SEO doesn't have much to do with backlinks. It depends on age of domain, how many citations they have from local directories, on-page SEO, etc.

since the competition is low and he has EMD, there is a chance that he dont even need a backlink to rank.
 
@Ziplack / so how do i see what the backlink profile is ?

You should read this thread more carefully, you can't just block ahrefs and bam there you go nobody's going to see what links you have. If you're links are only on sites you own then yes you can, but you can't go building links on forums, web 2.0's etc and expect your links not to show up in ahrefs since they're still gonna crawl those sites and collect data on the links they find there, and obviously you don't have access to their .htaccess filles on these sites to block them from doing so there.

Yes he might have built links to some feeder sites that he owns and done the trick with .htaccess but i highly doubt it in a non competitive niche, just thought id mention it in case someone thought there waz some magical method of stopping competitors spying on your links.
 
same here

they also don't have any special on seo too. and keywords have pretty high volume
 
First check their back links from others as well, like mejestic or back link watch...Or PM me his URL i will have a look at tell you..whats happening !
 
Check for a redirect, it will show up in Majestic SEO!
 
any suggestion to outrank people who r not using local seo no citation #1
 
Well As far as i think , regional SEO doesn't have much to do with inbound links. It relies on age of sector, how many details they have from regional internet directories, on-page SEO, etc. . . . . .
