I have like 500. lol

It's for my day job, how do I catch up to them? They have been in business for longer and have obviously done more than me in seo. I think they got through on dmoz and that helped them quite a bit.

How can I catch up to them? Just start making links? I wonder if they did a lot of black hat..

Luckily the #2 guys only have like 20,000 links..lol

I guess it's time to tell that it's not the number of links that make the site #1 or #10...

yeah they have tons of on site seo stuff as well, basically a bunch of scrolling text with all of the surrounding cities and other keywords. The site looks spammy because of all of this but they rank #1 for a few keywords.

I'm trying to figure out how to rank with them without spamming my site like that. My site is nice and clean but I think it hurts me seo wise.

The method is simple and straightforward. Do on-page and off-page SEO and get high quality high PR backlinks. Add some relevant and unique content regularly. It will take some time to beat your competitor.

Lucky for you they only have 26,000 links coming from other websites. Total links included their own internal links if I remember correctly. They probably do a lot of internal linking and that's why it's so damn high.

i think the amount of backlink not too influential, the important think is quality of that backlinks

A lot of their backlinks were to bs sites. I'm hoping that the job is easier than it looks. There is quite a dropoff though so #2 may not be too bad for now.

OP keep reading the above until it makes sense.

Post Penguin, having 50,000 backlinks is a HUGE problem. They are lucky they aren't on page 20. Read about Penguin. Don't do any backlinking.

Don't listen to this ^ TERRIBLE advice! That's crap hat tinfoil hat SEO.

They only have 2000 linking root domains according to that picture there. Plan on surpassing these guys in a year with consistent quality content and quality backlinks.

Build your site for your visitors but link build along the way. There is no over night victory to be had here.

Should Google extend penalties to "authority" sites, then chances are they'll get nuked down eventually.

Looks like mindless Scrapebox/xrumer spam to me.

Total backlinks is not even close to being everything needed to be analyzed. He/She can have 100k backlinks, but if only 50 of them contain anchor text for your target keyword... Yea...

get some authority links. home page links, wiki, blog comments, articles, social bookmarks, social network links. Quantity is not the problem. relevant and authority will do the necessary things. Don't spam when you building links. link diversity is essential. and as well as unique contents in your site will act major part.

100% agree the your 1 Unique Article on Social Site and some of back links to that article etc can beat these links :)

That's a whole lot of links..haha I don't think you'll ever "catch up

This is seomoz I guess. I have market samurai for checking competition and backlinks.

The number of backlinks isnt all that matters, its about the quality of those backlinks, how many unqiue IPs they come from and many other factors.

Try and build long lasting backlinks (not spamming blog comments/ forum profiles) and they we will stick.

This is not just of the number of backlinks.. it is also of powerfull of the backlinks
