Hello! I work as a UI designer. Yesterday I got this email from a client who wants to hire me for some design work. He said we can set up a call so that he can discuss the project with me. I'm currently busy with another client but the problem for me is the phone call. My english sucks and Im really anxious when speaking , I sometimes can't understand everything perfectly. What is a good and polite way to tell him that he can provide me with the requirements over email and that I can't have a phone call with him???

Just tell him how it his. Make clear that your speaking capabilities are limited and that you would prefer to talk about the requirements in a chat or email conversation. He'll understand, probably.

Common man you can do it , there is no hesitation with a call . Just tell him you are not fluent with English .

So , are you going to make Video call or Audio call ?

Another angle you can work, is wanting to have written specifications to reference later. I personally don't really like talking to people on the phone, in any language.

I understand that a lot of people prefer to connect with someone that way, at least before doing business with a stranger. You could probably just tell him that your written English is better than your spoken English, so you'll need to see it all in writing. He'll either understand, or he's not a client you'd want to have.

upfront and honest is the best way to go. Most of the time these guys just like to see who they are working with.

be honest with him. if, by any chance, that makes him take his offer back, you two weren't meant to work that closely anyway.

Telling him that you are uncomfortable with english before the call is not the way to go. I think you will be able to get more done on the call and close him as well. However if you find it difficult to understand the client, politely ask the client to please go slow as you are taking notes to get all his requirements on the notepad and don't want to miss anything.

All the best :)

Hire a freelancer who can talk with him on your behalf, provide him with as much as details you can.

Just tell him I don’t speak great English but I can try my best to help you if you email me exactly what your after

Just let him know you aren't comfortable that way.
