I have to review all the spam comments posted to my blog everyday! how do I put a stop to this?
I am copmletely out of ideas and it is very annoying to get tens of emails everyday with spam comments to my blog needing approval!

Why not just turn off comments?

..or install Akismet, that will kill off 95% of the spam.

As bobbys suggested, install Akismet and it will stop 95% of spam comments getting through.

Make sure you sign up for a new account to get a different API key for each website you run and then comment on your own blog with the link of your competitor. It will probably get through and await approval but you report it as spam instead.

    1) Install askimet...
    2) Put recaptcha plugin...
    3) Put 2 or more links in spam folder...
    4) Set comments must be approved by admin...
    5) Put some ban words
    6) Use this code for cleaning junk

    Code:
    DELETE FROM wp_comments WHERE comment_approved = 0
Should be enough to solve your problems...

Go to PHPMYAdmin find your database for your blog. Click on SQL and run the code which was provided above by BIZROOT.

    DELETE FROM wp_comments WHERE comment_approved = 0

That will delete every comment which you haven't approved yet. I just thought I would add some instructions in case you didn't know how to run that.

two excellent posts from two clever people. thanks for the advice from both of you. on a separate note, i cant help laughing at the wicked way MANIC MYSTERY uses akismet against his competitors. dont know that i'll ever use that tactic myself, but it appealed to my sense of humour...

    Why a different API ?
I've used the same key on dozens of blogs and never seen anything bad happen because of it.

What point am I missing ?

Not asking in a sarcastic way, just always learning ;-)
