I tried a few approaches,
Thats one that worked for me the most was pretty upfront, I'll write something like
:" hi I'm the owner of xxx.com , looking to pay for a post on your site, interested?"
This literally got me the most replies. short and to the point, shows that I'm willing to pay.
On my end, I got a ton of guest posts requests for my sites and they're usually long, full of crap, and seems like ppl are trying to get free links which I don't even bother to reply to, so avoid that.
don't write stuff like
:" hi, I was thinking of a great post to post on your site, here are ideas :
1
2
3
let me tell you about myself..
let me tell you about my copmapyn
let me tell you about the us economy...
i would love to write free content for you guys your audience will like it "
Webmasters are usually not interested in your 'free content', I mean really its not like you're going to give them a professor quality content anyway and their site is ranking better than yours in some cases so why is your content more valuable than theirs?
Just my thoughts would love to hear your approach.
