My 3 rules of buying hosting

These are good points to keep in mind specially when buying domain name and registering for hosting services. This will surely cover you when screwed by hosting companies. I usually seek quality services and customer support while choosing hosting services.

While my hosting fails at nr1 at providing reasonable rates for 1 mo and I fail at nr 3 as some sites are around 300mb so it would be a shore to back them all up I still bloody like one thing, live support.

I almost feel like I abuse this feature. Have a database error? Too bored to check it out? Live support! They have even solved my own stupid blunders like forgetting I missed the password field. I mean they actually get their pay for helping me and I get to do my own stuff while they work for me. A win win situation.

I'll just mention that the password thing happened one time as most of the time I try to figure out my own stuff only to learn my hosting has something different or my way won't work and only their way that they know of will work. Still if it wasn't for live support I would lose twice as much time as it is always nice to try figure out problems yourself.

hmmm... interesting but i have bought 3 domains and hosting from one company.... what should i do? its my first year and i have not experienced any problem yet... what should i expect from hostmonster?

Regarding hosting tips, I also want to highlight the importance of having actual backups. I, for example, make backup both from phpmyadmin in cpanel and the export function from wordpress, in case of wp blogs.

So the sql database is in my laptop, but also on an external hdd.

I definitely 100% agree with not having domain/hosting together for any good sites, but what I was wondering is on small projects you want to do (say a site that you feel may not stay for long; CPA or content locker sites, or even flippa sites) - where you can buy the domain/hosting together for like $1 for the first year or so.. Is it a good idea to do it??

Im thinking of trying some blackhat stuff just to try out with CB or some other CPA, but I dont want to associate it with my real domains/hosting due to fear of getting accounts linked together and potential banned, so if I bought something really cheap with Hosting/domain together, is it worth it?

Only one I may disagree with is domain and hosting at the same company. Its ok, IF and only IF you have control over the domain name. We sell domain names, but we do not control them, the client does, We have people who buy the domains, never host with us and we could care less. Just make sure the hosting companys name is not on the domain name except maybe as tech support and your ok.
ALWAYS do your own backups!
Never pay for more than 1 month -- we offer a discount but thats mainly for local city/county -- they want to just pay once and be done.
I would also say look to see if they are incorporated/legit. Doesnt promise better service, but it does imply they want to be around for a while longer!
