I do all of my business offline, which requires cold calling, cold visiting, etc.

My #1 pet peeve for offline marketing is actually getting through to the business head managers or owners. I cannot stand walking into a business, or talking on the phone to a business to a completely incompetent employee, who has ZERO idea, nor interest in what you're doing.

You ask politely to relay your message along with a phone# or business card/business model packet to the head managers or owner of the establishment.

Let me just say from experience, the message hardly EVER gets relayed from the servers/bartenders/hostesses to the owners/managers.

BUT When the message is relayed, or I'm directly connected to the head of establishment, it's a done deal as far as a sale.

Do you guys have any suggestions on bypassing or socially engineering the employee to either directly connect you right then to the manager/owner, or increase the rate of relay message.

I thought of making it sound like it was something extremely important that I could not talk to them about, and need the manager/owner to call me back at his/her earliest convenience.

Anywho, what are your experiences? Negative or positive it may be.

    Thanks!

If you've got the budget for it, try a dimensional mailer . . . send them something in a box . . . one company I worked for printed their sales letter on a T-shirt. It was along the lines of "What sort of crazy company would print its sales letter on a T-shirt . . .? Well, you guessed it, the same kind of crazy company that actually believes someone should be able to get what they pay for when they buy a _____________."

It pulled well and the ROI made up for the increased cost in producing shirts. If you need a custom T-shirt place in the U.S., let me know and I'll give you the contact info for the company I use.

Now that is thinking outside of the box, I just don't think that particular method would come off as professional with my clients.

I need a classy method of getting directly to the owners/managers without having to deal with the mindless employees. While still capturing their attention.

I will on the other hand PM you for the contact details to maybe get a better idea.

It's probably cause you're not positioning yourself right with the "Gatekeeper" If you are having that much trouble trying to get information relayed you should give the people you deal with an incentive to do so. Make it seem like they are the most important person and they'll bend over backwards for you.

    YOU ARE THE AUTHORITY!!!!!

"I need to speak to someone in management, can you please transfer me"

Not too much science behind it. It is just confidence in your voice and actions. Just tell them you are boss and you need to talk to boss.

    So many options,

"Can I speak to the person in charge of..."
"I need to speak to a manager..."
"I was told to speak to this person (title), are they available"

    And do it with AUTHORITY

    ok thats it.

Yeah I read that thread a few times. The town I'm in is difficult to find solid referrals. I've just got to keep looking harder and giving better incentive to them.

Yeah, bribing is hard for me to do face to face.

Absolutely, and that works to an extent, until the employee asked what I'm calling for, can't lie, then all they relay is "its some kind of marketer on the phone" an immediately the boss says fuck off.

I can't seem to get enough!

    1) www,manta,c0m that will tell you who the owners are so you can ask for them by name instead of asking for "the manager". Also, do a little more research and take some risks if their name lets say Anthony there is a chance they may go by the name "Tony" see if they have a facebook or linked in using these nicknames. If the guys name is Tony and someone asks for Anthony right away they know they dont know you.

The second thing is when they ask what you are calling for dont lie just say I am calling about increasing your sales. Or "making you more money" because any worthwhile ser ice will make money or save money. Anyone especially a manager who hears that and doest at least want to hear you out isnt worth your time in the first place
