There's no secret to that. I am primarily a salaried person. As for IM, I prefer other techniques than SERP traffic, because Google SERP is weird. I prefer Social Media traffic (group spamming, spamming sponsored posts and so on) and ads.

Theres not a hard rule about sucessful companies or projects starting with failures but they are the best ones because thats the only thing showing your weak spots.

Which do you earn more from, Salary or IM??

You will most likely fail at least once just because of lack of experience, information or skills - its impossible to know everything right from the start.

The only way to get around that is to keep trying and getting better until you succeed.

Succeeding at something on your very first try requires a lot of factors to go right for you. Failure before success isn't romanticized. No one likes working really hard at something only to see it fail or not work out like it was supposed to. But if it happens, it's alright. Everything could only have two outcomes any way - You either succeed or you don't.

If you don't it's alright. You get another chance at it.
If you succeed the very first time then that's awesome.
It's just that people learn a few things after failing that helps improve their chances of succeeding the next time.

You probably saw this coming but to quote Thomas Edison after he repeatedly kept failing in his pursuit to build an incandescent light bulb -

"I have not failed. I have just found 10,000 ways that don't work."

He obviously would've saved so much time and energy had he succeeded at his very first attempt but he would've never gained the knowledge and perspective that he did from repeatedly failing. To put it into a few words, you will most likely fail at something new that you pick up and it's completely ok if you do.

Looking back at all my successful pursuits and failures, I honestly remember my failures more. It's a different kind of high when you fail at something, work your ass off and eventually turn that L into a W. It feels all the more better.
