If I create a multisite Wordpress with 20 blogs within that multisite for backlinking, will that diminish the power of the backlinks??

I'm not sure if I understand entirely, but I'll try and give you an answer.

So you are going to create a multisite setup with a hub-page (yoursite.com) and 20 sub-domains/sub directories (keyword.yoursite.com).

And you're going to link to where?

To External Sites - It's going to depend on the PR of the page you are linking from, and the number of external links on that page. Even though they would be sub-domains, they are still part of the same website, and links are definitely worth a little less if they are all coming to the same place.

To Internal Page - Internal linking strategy with anchor texts could help increase your site relevancy to a certain keyword. It will also help flow PR through the site.

Power of backlinks is equal to PR divided by outgoing "********" links.

I'm not really sure what your main goal for this strategy is, so its tough to give you a more complete answer.

    Englandrm,

    Thanks for replying.

I have 20 domains in one hosting account. I will be using wordpress multisite for all 20. Since the 20 domains are using one wp and with MS wordpress, it makes the other 19 domains either subdomain or subdirectory. It will required DNS changes. Since the other 19 are sub domain/directory but changed in the DNS to have it's own www.mydoamin.com,

___> WILL the link quality be lower since it's all bundled up into one with the other 19 subdirectory / subdomain?

I plan to slowly build my own link machine and less dependence on web2.0 sites.

If they all have their own domains, they won't be connected to the main website like they would if you were using subdomains, however:
They will still all be on the same IP and will be noticeably owned by the same person, so they will not give you the same juice as links from sites which come from different class C hosts and appear to have a variety of owners.

The sites you are going to build are not really going to match the link juice you can get from a good 2.0 site anyway though.

In short, the link quality will be lower, but not worthless.
If you are really trying to get a high quality link machine going, you need to set up websites with different nominal owners, on different class C IPs, and do not link to all of the same websites from each of your farm sites. (so you would have 40 farm sites and you would link to your new money site from a random 20 of those sites each time)

I dont see this as really worth it unless you want to sell links from your farm sites.

Then again, you never really know how well something will do until you try it for yourself, so chalk it up as a learning experience, do it and let us all know how it goes ;)
