I've received conflicting views on having multiple back links on one domain. Some say it's good and some say you only need one. My issue is that I am writing articles and want to submit them to EZine because of their high PR, but I already have an article there with my links. So would it be better to post them to another article site where I haven't any links or just keep pounding EZine because of their high page rank?

I love all my links equally. Except the spam ones. They can GTFO.
In response to your question though, I know of a local SEO website in South Africa that is only on page 1 because they are in a blogroll that happens to appear on 1000+ pages of a certain domain. So yes I think more than one is beneficial in this case.

I'm a total newbie to not only this forum but also to SEO and SEM, so my question may be dumb, but is the only value to an article the link back to my website? In other words, if I put a link back to my site with anchor text as "some product", is that the only keyword I'll get credit for with the entire article? So basically I write a 700 word article and it only gives me credit for that one link and keyword....or do the search engines somehow factor in the other words in the article and give you credit towards those as well?
I still don't totally understand articles and why they're important if you really only can get one or two links from them.

IMO, I think Google knows and can determine whether the article is relevant or not. Maybe someone here knows better than me.

Does anyone here use Gather? I noticed they aren't accepting new contributors now, but I signed up to them a couple years ago and I submitted an article instantly with no review and multiple links anywhere I wanted them in the body. But I've noticed that none of the articles posted ever show up in a search - for anyone, but supposedly they're not a no follow site. Not sure if I should waste my time there or not...

I think you mean noindex. But no, I haven't used Gather before.
I looked at their robots.txt file and saw that they have disallow for their article pages. Does this still allow page rank to pass on with links from there?
In my opinion 1 links from domain is enough, however, despite to all these GG updates about unnatural link schemes, multiple links from 1 domain could be useful if it's from an authority domain
if you submit articles to articles directory, don't submit the same spinned article, don't submit the same link to your site and don't use the same keyword, change and rotate as more as you can and after submitting, promote your own articles to relevant social bookmarks, twit or share on FB or other networks, also in this case, chang, random and rotate your system

The context (text around your link) is very important, which is why it's better to write readable artticles related to your niche. As for # of links per domain, as long as it is not on link farms, I would go for it, get as many as you can, and make sure they are good quality!

I wouldn't mind getting few hundreds of links so long as the site is an authority site. Getting links from ezine Shouldn't harm you unless you are getting them in thousands & thousands
Is there a certain page rank for an article site that shouldn't be posted to unless it's at or above that?

I would post on any directory, PR0+ it does not matter, BUT... I post good stuff onto higher PR sites, and lower quality on low PR sites. (this is mainly due to the fact that high PR sites do not allow junk content while low PR ones do.)

Actually multiple backlinks from same domain will help you to boost the authority of your website. This is what the blogroll and footer links are effective till now (The related content should be around it).

I think if you are talking about getting multiple links from quality domain, then its an advantage.. But if its not that good then getting a single link is enough

Multiple links from the same domain works for me. Don't only hit ezine though, mix it up. You can post multiple links on ezine and it will have a positive effect though.
