Multiple FF instances - Upgrade Ram or Processor?

What kind of processor do you have? If its anything less then a 3.0 ghz with 4 cores then you need to upgrade the processor.
Usually you simply need to upgrade the ram if your processor is decent. I'd go with 8gb-16gb of ram minimum for anything automation wise.

i5 2.4 + 8gb + ssd
To best describe my issue at a certain workload its all ok. Increase it by 25% and everything slows down by a good 75%+.
