I want to create a multiplayer card game where users can join tables/rooms (ex. Zynga Poker) to compete and play with each other.

I have no app or game development experience.

Is there any beginner friendly software to create card game app from scratch?

How much would it cost to hire a developer to create a multiplayer card game app with in-app purchases?

What kind of path do you think I should follow?

Well casinos games are probably one of the most complicated games to make. They seems easy but infact the codes requires mathematics skills especially in statistics.

So briefly, you'll need to learn a programming language for mobile there are the main ones:

Java: Android
Swift: IOS
Kotlin: Android
C#: IOS and Android

You start learning the code basic/ frontend then the backend side;

You need graphics and animations;

Rent server;

Implementing payment;

Effective way of marketing and probably some google ads campaign;

Programming is an long and hard work for a finished result.

Good luck

It is not that complicated. I always try to find a simple and easy way to start.

Remember, before you KNOW your game is successful you should not put much effort.

MVP is what you need.

Simple app that works with basic functionality. You test the prototype and decide based on your data.

I spent 1y on an app I thought was great just to see nobody liked it play time 5 minutes and D1 5%. Disaster. An year wasted.

Then I switched to mvp and I sill do mvps in any business I start. It doesn't matter if this a niche blog or next best game.

If you start a blog what would you do? Learn to code, learn to write, learn design, get vps? Or just install WordPress on a shared hosting and move on with a basic design?

Multiplayer games are though to build for a pro, you as a newbie have a long road ahead.

So forget about servers and so. Make a simple bot that emulates multiplayer. Trust me this works great and most of multiplayer games are in fact with bots.

So you need 20 minutes play time, a bot that mimics real users - don't overthink it and decent design. Publish your game and test it. When you see metrics you will know.

I wish you success!

So what I can say is: Unless you have a high budget, don't try.
Don't scare people, please.

What do you consider high budget? 1k, 10k 100k? If a budget is high for one these could be small money for others.

I can build a decent multiplayer game in 3mo to test it. I can hire a dev for 2k to do it, is this a high budget?

And remember, I am not a developer. If I was it should cost me some time, not miney.

Testing a prototype costs me say $100 - 200, max 300 depending on many factors.

If it takes 3 months to make an initial version it is not that simple and it can't possibly cost you 2k unless you want a mediocre result.

For the OP I have seen some projects like this that start from 20k with basic features others more complex have reached 100k and even more, you must also take into account the monthly expenses, user acquisition and maintenance of a project like this add to that the development time it takes for something like this.

3 mo and 2k from idea to MPV including brainstorm (free), research (free), design ($100-200) codding ($1800-2000), test ($100-200). If I see positive results we build it up, if not I give up. I work with local devs and designers and rate are low here. I work with students - they are high skilled and motivated and take this as an oppotrunity to learn, practice and build up a portfolio. If a project is successful I hire them long term and give them a share + fixed sallary. No need to make it complicated, simple apps can be profitable and easy to maintain.

Not scaring anyone, just being realistic. He wrote "beginner-friendly software". He is going to compete with multi-million dollar companies, which not only have a team of highly skilled devs but also have an existing userbase of who-knows how many gamers.

That's all good for YOU. But as a newbie, good luck finding reliable people on Upwork or wherever to build a multiplayer game for $2k while delivering a good and fun game people actually want to play. Especially when it comes to games, there are so many things to consider...depending on how serious you are about it.

I can do all those stuff by myself as well and probably not even pay for testing since I already have a huge userbase, but this thread is not about you or me, it's about OP...and as you can see he has no experience. There are two ways to handle it: Learn all those stuff yourself or outsource it. And if you outsource all of it, it is going to be costly.

But hey, you probably write this stuff because you are selling an ebook on how to rank and bank on Google Play. Of course, you wouldn't say the opposite.

My point was to build MVP. Simple game with a bot that mimics multiplayer instead of real multiplayer. There are at least two reasons for this 1. It is a lot easier and cheap, 2. With real multiplayer you need big enough user base to test.

For a card game simulating a decent multiayer can be done with several variables depending on the game. You can simulate gameplay, leaderborad, rooms, everything.

Have you played a multiplayer game in a standalone mode? This is a bot. With a ludo game it can be just random numbers for example. With a card game you can do it with several random variables. We are talking about simple way to start building apps and then going advanced. If he starts with a real multiplayer right from the start it is going to be a tough task.

He should take MVP approach, I believe. Easy card game with 2 players who play one after another. Say they play on the same device side by side. Then think about multiplayer.

I stop here, I said all I have. Start simple and advance.

You can find someone on Fiverr for 2k sir. It will be a sir quality.

If you want real results, you need much much more. Thats not even enough to pay a good coder for 4 weeks. A mediocore one will do for 2k per month, but that takes longer and isnt as good. By the day on release, you may still have paid more.

You will also need same amount for design, unless you want to buy shit on envato. For a unique good quality design you need like 1-2k.

But tbh you can get one for 10-20k. But only if its a simple one and dont have difficult gameplay or graphics.

Tho you still need servers and shit like ads which may cost a lot.

Thank you for all the insightful comments.

I never heard of MVP and learning that AirBnb and Foursquare used this method to start off is really interesting. I will research more about this.
As far as I understood It will take me years to build one without knowledge of coding. Because there is no software out there that will help me build one from scratch without coding knowledge.

If I decide to hire a developer it will cost around 10-20k to just code the game not including servers, marketing and design.

The game will be unique and I don’t think it will require any advanced graphics or gameplay features, at least in the beginning. I see that as an advantage (budget wise) to market and develop the game.

In order to play you at least 3 people and that’s why I wrote multiplayer. It looks like including bots mimicking real users in the beginning will be the option until the game grows.

I would look at $2000 - $5000 for simple prototype, I am guessing you know some local card game that is extremely popular locally and thought it would be popular online too, it will be - yes, but you will have to start with investment unfortunately.

hardest part with be writing bot that will take over in case player abandons table.

It'd be better to scour the internet for existing pre-made sources and modify them if needed. There are a lot of online casino sites that are being sold as of now
