Whats up guys! So I've been working on this site, and I'm thinking to make it multilingual, thing is the internal structure is quite complex, thus using a plugin like polylang ends up crushing the site for some reason...

Anyways in that case I have two alternatives, that is a) Create sub-domains: "de.site.com" or b) Create subforlders: "site.com/de/"

Since sub-domains are taken as a different domain by the search engines, I'm not quite sure which would be better in terms of SEO.

I would recommend using subfolders. I did this on an old site I used to manage and it worked fine in terms of SEO performance.
sounds good, any advice I should take into account?

Tested them both. Subdomains work better than sub folders when Hreflang is properly implemented.
