Hello, i would like to market a couple of websites i am running in countries other than USA. What procedure is better for seo in 2016, to add a language to a us website or to buy a new domain in the .country tld? They are all built with wordpress.
Thanks in advance and i apologize if this question has been posted already

Build multilingual site, it will make higher authority for your site than more separate sites

I for one would consider using separate website for every target you have and link them by the language selector. Ofcourse this is for the long run and it all comes down to the budget you have or are willing to invest.

You suggest to use wpml as translation plugin? i have been using polylang until now with same domain, but i couldn't see the website anywhere in the serp of local google versions

Well, i have tried polylang but didnt suit my needs but can say that wpml is alot better if not the best for this kinda stuff. As far as i noticed using same domain for multiple languages is a little bit harder to rank even thou you might say there are some benefits.
Again if you have the budget for it i would suggest new domain for every country but if you dont you can always use the subdomain option and create subdomains for the desired region you are targeting.

If you see big brands, many have separate websites for different countries and link them using the language selector as posted by svabb2000. That would be the ideal way to go...

What is the full plugin name of WPML - I installed the WPML Language selector but there comes message:

"WPML is not activated, please activate it before using WPML Widgets"

It is a simply wordpress install I have.
