mozilla eating memory

i have this problem,tryied many things from google,i need mozilla cause addons so how i prevent this,anyone knows

I have the same for a long time too. I would have dumped Firefox a long time ago if not for the addons. It is getting to the point now that I have to shut down Firefox several times a day just to free up memory so I can open other programs.
 
there is a program call mozilla optimizer made by some guy in mexico what it does is restore memory used by firefox you have to do a search on google to find it but it works great, for some strange reason it does show as a virus when you run the spyware I had it for about 3yrs and have not had any problems.

best solution: buy more RAM, it's as simple as that, it isn't that expensive nowadays

1,5-2G for Win XP, 3-4G for Vista, 3G for Win7 should be enough
 
I had the same problem with 1g ram. I add another 1G and problem is solved....
 
do you use the new firefox 4 betas? it is normal that these builds take much more ram since the include special debug symbols in case of a crash so reporting to mozilla is much more detailed and they can track down a bug.

if you use firefox 3.5+ with many plugings and tabs opened you need to life with it - unfortunately :(
 
Something else that chews up resources with Firefox is the crash protection using plugin container. There's lot of complaints about it over on Mozilla if you want to look it up.

You can check your processes to see if it is running and it can be disabled.

Search Google (I can't post links yet) for:

Plugin-container and out-of-process plugins #disabling crash

first result, then check under 'Disabling Crash Protection' and follow instructions

I was having problems with Market Samurai amongst others and once I disabled this they're fine now.
 
I would agree with buying more ram but why spend more money or money you don't have, when you can get the free app "firefox ultimate optimizer" and use it with any of the versions of firefox and save your selfs some cash.

i can see your point and i can agree with that if you have absolutely no money, but buying more RAM buys you time - i'm not talking about firefox only - and we know it better than almost anybody else: time is money

if you have 1G RAM on Win XP, even only +512MB can make a very big difference in performance and it's really dirt cheap, i've just bought 5G (used) DDR2 for ~$30 on ebay

the smile on your face to see your machine running smoothly even under hard usage is priceless :)

Great one.

I have 3 GB ram, but this one actually helped a bit.
FF is running faster now.

And Ram wasn't issue for me, as FF was taking 300 of Ram when multiple windows open - after installing AFOM it is only 60!
Hopefully it will stay like that.

Usually, when I run into firefox using too much memory, it is one of the addons causing the problem. Try running firefox in safemode and see if the problem still persists. If it doesn't, then run firefox in normal mode and disable all your addons. Slowly add each one until you find out which one(s) may be causing the problem.

Create an additional profile and differentiate how you use each. For instance you can pack the second instance with a lot of the plugins that are so vital for you and keep the default profile clean and tidy.

To create a new profile and / or start it just go to start -> run and type:

c:\program files\mozilla firefox\firefox -no-remote -p profile1

profile1 is a simple label you give to your instance so you can name it as you wish. HTH.
 
I too see FF taking memory to the point my computer slooooows down to make me want to take action.

I am going to try the AFOM addon that was suggested and will report back my results.
