I am about to take one domain down from a host, and put another up.
I used the host and domain as a TEST for my WP blog, but love the way it is going.

Can I take down the first domain, put in the second, and copy EVERYTHING from WP to it, making the 2nd domain is permanent home?

If so, can anyone tell me what to do?

    Thanks,

assuming you use cpanel, here's an option:
    1. create a cpanel account for 2nd domain
    2. copy all files from 1st domain to 2nd.
    3. export the sql script from 1st domain
    4. create db on 2nd, and import the sql script through phpmyadmin
    5. edit wp-config. to change the database info. http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php
    6. login to domain2/wp-admin and edit the setting to change the base url

Are you changing domain names or just switching hosts?

If you're switching hosts you basically download all of the files and MySQL database, then re-upload everything and the add the database through PHPMyAdmin.

If you're switching domain names I normally open up the database file on my computer and do a find and replace of usernames and domain name references.

    I am only switching domains.
Taking one off my host (the one the blog is on now), and putting another domain on the same host (the one I want the blog on).

So just replace the information in the WP files?

If you are changing the domain, you need to go thru you db to replace the domain references as MaestroDelWeb already suggested. Easiest way:
In phpMyAdmin go to export db, select all tables and do not select "send file".

    1. Copy and paste the db data into a text editor and search/replace. If you safe the data instead, make sure you use the right encoding.

    2. copy and paste changed data in sql window of your new db.
