Moving from NY to Atlanta

Anyone on here from Atlanta, GA? I am moving from NY in the next few weeks but I have never been there long enough to really check out any of the areas. Some people have told me that Midtown is nice and affordable but I'd be working in Buckhead. Too far of a drive? How much should I expect rent to be for a studio? Any other recommendations?

I work in Midtown. Compared to locations outside of the loop it's about 50% more expensive so for a studio perhaps $1200? Try some of the apartment finders to see for yourself. Coming from NYC though everything is going to be cheap and your dollar will go a lot further.

Buckhead is one of the most expensive places downtown and it's completely surrounded by low income housing areas so be on your toes regarding theft. You'll see on the news here crime stories in Buckhead all the time and when they interview the victim it always starts out with "I thought where I lived was safe and that it couldn't happen to me".

ATL is way cheaper then NY. with around 1k you can rent a 5 bedroom house. You need a car tho.

If you think you're getting a reprieve from the traffic think again!

Buckhead is really nice, great party spot with lots of Georgia peaches running around.

So do you recommend living in Midtown? I searched online and found a few studios for $750-$1K per month which is insanely cheap.

Holy crap, a 5 bedroom house?! Yeah I actually just got a car. 2010 Ford Fusion. It's pretty good on gas, so I hope I'll be fine if I have to drive long distances (hopefully not though).

Which brings up another question I have: Are there a lot of cabs around in the area that I'd be able to use to catch rides?

Yeah I heard traffic in Atlanta is pretty bad. What's odd is that it only has 420K people in it though I think. I'm almost certain that's the amount of people in Staten Island and the two places seem to be of the same size (Atlanta's probably a hair larger though). Hopefully my NY driving skills will come into play.

Just be careful driving on Peachtree! There's hundreds of them, I swear. lol

What part of NY you from? I am also a New Yorker been living in Atlanta for 11 years already and is NOTHING like NY. I miss home a lot but it is a lot cheaper down here to live. I would think twice about grabbing a cab lol is going to be more expensive because everything is a bit far depending what area you stay at. I live in Marietta by the way, and what made you move down here?

Atlanta proper has 420K people but that's just a paper number. The actual Atlanta metro area has around 5 million people, they live on the outskirts and commute to work, shop, etc. in ATL. I'm a bit further south in Jacksonville but make it through from time to time and yes, traffic is horrible.

I live just north of Buckhead in Sandy Springs. Great area in my IMO.
