Hello everyone,

I have recently acquired a new client and I want to change his website from Joomla to Wordpress. Now, the links are all ending in html and once I use wordpress they will not. Will that affect current rankings? I plan on keeping the link structure almost identical, there may be a few changes. Let me know your thoughts on whether I should keep his site the same or make a Wordpress site.

Thanks,
Tristan.

personally i wouldn't do it, and i use both. It will be more hassle than its worth. WIth everyone always talking about content being king, then unless the site requires a certain plugin or overhaul, leave best alone. Fundamentally they are both the same anyway. Publishing platforms.

You would need to setup a 301 redirect for each page he currently has to whatever the new page will be. This sounds like it could be a lot of work. If you don't do this, all of those pages currently indexed in google, or linked to on the internet will be busted. This will kill traffic and probably their SERP rankings.

Joomla isn't that bad. It has some pretty nice features and plugins. For example, it has native full page caching and APC support. I would personally just stick with Joomla unless there is a very good reason to move them to wordpress.

Yeah, just many SEO flaws. I guess I can fix them myself through Joomla. Not worth the hassle. Thanks guys.

Hi there! CMS2CMS tool supports 301 redirects while migrating from joomla to wordpress so that you don't need to worry about losing your ranking.

Don't do it. Don't EVER move a ranking page.

If the pages are ranking then you need to leave them on Joomla because by changing the link structure any at all
could lead to a real drop in the SERPS.

Joomla is pretty good with nice features but most of them prefer wordpress as it is much reputed. Yes it is worth it but you have to set up 301 redirect first for each page that you want to transfer. Probably need a custom coded plugin for this purpose
