I'm not sure if I've posted in the right forum but here it goes:

I have a website idea, it's basically a movie review website like IMDB but in another language, where people can register and add reviews about a particular movie.
It's like mydramalist website but I want to make it simpler since I have just started.

I dont have any backgrounds in advanced programming language but I have already started learning Ruby on Rails.
I'm unemployed so I dont have enough budget in hiring programmers

Will this idea be feasible in Ruby on Rails? Any idea on the cost of hosts and servers, will it be expensive? I'm new to this. Thank you very much!

Its very nice idea but many sites you can see when you search on Google, and Do you think people will prefer to write?

Regarding hosting expenses: This totally depends on the amount of traffic you get of course.
You can start with a cheap shared hosting and then change hosting plan as your website grows.

OP m not much sure about the niche, but you can use WordPress for your website rather than RubyONRails.

As it offers many rating plugins that can help you in making your website a hub for rating movies. Hosting, domain registration is not much expensive. Remember if you wanna make money, you have to invest a little bit.

Hope this helps :thumb:

it's a site for local movies and indie films released from our country (still unsure if i'll include hollywood movies), i havent seen reviews/ ratings for those so Im gonna have to try.

Thanks guys for your response, probably will save me a lot of time in using wordpress than learning rails step by step. Though I wanted to try Rails bec I wanted to scale it in the future if I attract lots of users, rather than just movie reviews i'd add local actor profiles, news, ranking, etc.
