Thread moved to lounge.

You are basically asking "how to make yourself do something that you don't want to do".

Why would you want to do that?

How to Make Yourself Work When You Just Don’t Want To?
You really have a valid question here. I think most people will approach with the mindset of getting more money and fame. But what about those who have enough of these ? What keeps them motivated ? That should be the goal, I think.

You can watch motivational videos or read some books. Power of Habit is a popular title that gets passed around. What did it for me was Brian Tracy's Psychology of Success/Achievement. I listened to the audiobook while at my day job ten years ago & it moved me to go full-time into IM. If you read enough of these self-help books you will see they all rehash the same info. There was thread in lounge posted last week which was good about goal setting in a pleasant infographic.
I have about 40 bhw threads bookmarked tagged "motivation". It's nice in the moment but doesn't work long term. You will come to find out motivation always runs out. What you need is discipline. Consistent habits. Just put in the hours even if you don't feel like it. It's all mental. Check out the 2 minute rule. Just work at it for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes you don't feel like it , just stop. Usually your brain will be okay going past the 2 minutes. Pomidoro rule is nice too.
Last resort....nootropics, modafinil, supplements & drugs. See a doctor maybe you have vitamin B deficiency which saps energy.
End of the day it's all up to you...don't want to put in the work the alternative is be an employee for someone else 40hr a week w/ a commute. That's enough to scare you into working!

Just don't work then. Find something that you are passionate about and make it your work. Then you will not need any motivation cuz u like it.

Fuck motivation. It's a fickle and unreliable little state that isn't worth your time.

Better to cultivate discipline than to rely on motivation. Force yourself to do things, to get out of bed, to go the gym, to work harder and smarter; force yourself to do stuff when you don't feel like doing anything.

Motivation is fleeting, and it's easy to rely on because it requires no concentrated effort to get. Motivation comes to you, you don't even have to chase after it.

Discipline is reliable; motivation is momentary. The real question isn't how to keep yourself motivated, it's how to train yourself to work without it.

I don't have enough posts to links but a desktop background of something you really want helps. Also, the Power of Habit book helped with how you can get trained to do things automatically by doing them or forcing yourself to do them for a short period.

The best way is to stop relying on motivation.
Here's what I do...
Write down what I need to get done and what I know I can get done in 15 minutes.
Close all applications, games, browser tabs, etc, except the tab(s) you need open to complete your task (if applicable).
Then, I'd visit a site like this one, and set the countdown timer to 10 minutes.
I like to use the Chime, as the Timer End Alarm.
So here's where the magic happens...
Work your butt off, towards completing that task.
No distractions. No TV, no games, no web surfing, no chatrooms, etc.
This is the time where you grind.
Chances are, you'll finish your task.
If not, then THIS is the point where your motivation should kick in, and you'll be determined to finish what you started.
It's hard to beat laser-focused, tunnel-visioned action.

Good "luck".

think they say you have to do something 22 times for it to become a habit, if you can discipline yourself for 22 days then uve got it
