Motivation? A real question!

Hello guys,

I've been in a very lazy mode now...Some time before I earned money online , everything was good and so on..but now.. It seems that my parents are offering me what I need and at my age ( 17) and I am thinking of something that will make me motivated to start earning money online again.

It's just I don't think of something that I can get with money...I mean i don't feel as I need money very much..so I say in my head? " Why money? Not really a need".I know some of you will say " get clothes , cars , travel bla bla " ,well I have clothes, car not yet cause of age and i am not really in the traveling moode ...

Any help here? Will be appreciated!

You have to be "hungry" to succeed. Either literally or figuratively. Sounds like you are not hungry. If you don't have the fire in your gut, forget it. No one can put that fire in you.

Well there was one thing in my life that I wanted badly...a cellphone. I've made the money to buy it in 1 week . It was a very motivational thinking ...i wanted very badly that cellphone.

Now I wonder, how to get that feeling again..?

The answer is simple . . . You need a goal.

A goal is like a "reverse anchor". Instead of pulling you down, it lifts you up toward it.

If you don't know what you want, how will you ever get it?

I have the same problem sometimes.

Human Motivation is VERY VERY VERY mysterious.

Notice that most animals are not very motivated to do much at all.

Humans are a bit quirky here.

Motivation at its core is a hard-wired need for animals to display to other animals -- for the purposes of making allies and getting girls to sleep with us.

In IM, motivation is a problem sometimes because often, your peer group, doesn't even know what IM means.

So it's not a domain-specific fitness indicator, and hence, by displaying and building your IM knowledge, you don't score many points with them.

I used to have a deep desire to be rich. But, then as I started realizing how little the role that money plays in the excitation of female attraction circuitry, then being rich didn't sound very interesting anymore.

I still struggle with motivation.

Wait until you are out on your own and you NEED money to pay for the car, house/apartment, food, and anything else life has to throw out you without the parent's help.

I wish I was 17 again and just starting out because I would have all that time to learn and succeed. It only gets harder when you have to get a job in the real world to start paying for things you could be working towards now.

It's funny you say you don't need money but you could be using this time to stock pile that cash and retire at an early age. The first thing people tell you when investing that time is money.

Most people have the "time" of their lives from when they are 17-27. Cause they don't do shit. They copy what everyone else does.

Don't be like society's mindless tools.

You know what I see all the time? Teens and young adults who think they're cool because they smoke weed and drink booze, party 24/7, and fail school. Don't ever connect with those broke losers. Those are the same people you see flipping burgers and working at office depot.

And don't even connect to disguised douchebags. These people are pretend to be nice (but ugly on the inside) and get good grades, and these people are the most influential of all. You want to be like them because you think they're doing well in society (getting good grades, working out, etc.) but deep inside they're shit. BE YOURSELF.

My friends are shit. They get jealous of my money. They ask me for help, and when I don't give them help because they're fucking lazy, they give me shit like "your childhood is more valuable than money, and you're wasting it."

Well I look at it this way. My childhood is awesome because I do shit that others are too dumb and afraid to do. I push myself. I don't hop bandwagons and follow trendy shit. I'm young, but I know that in 10 years I'm gonna forget my childhood and it won't mean shit. I'd rather live the last 50 years of my life in comfort than live my first 20 years in some stupid bullshit fantasy.

I'm not telling you to become a fulltime IMer, I'm telling you to do whatever you want. If you want to work a 9-5 job, then go for it, as long as it makes you happy. Problem with today's society is everyone is a fucking follower.

In my life only two things matter: money and love.

Get your money. Improve yourself. Work out. Use your money to buy things that will HELP you, not hurt you (weed, xbox, whores, etc). Being in love is the next greatest thing to making money, in fact I think it feels even better. That doesn't mean be a player and bang 10 chicks a week. Just find yourself a girlfriend you can trust. Then find yourself a tight-knit group of friends who you can trust. This is all coming from not only my experience, but the experience of 1000s of other successful individuals.

Don't be a follower. Don't be influenced. And please, please, don't waste your fucking time with shit friends. Your friends can easily corrupt you. It's better to have 1-2 friends who are good, than 500 shit friends.

There, did that motivate you? Be different. Fuck the status quo.

I'm trying not to be too pessimistic, but seems like you need a bit of reality slapped into you.

Money and true love. All you need. It sucks having one but not the other.

You can't force it. It has to come naturally. REAL "hunger" for success only comes to you if you want something so badly that it almost hurts. Then and only then you'll feel the fire in your gut as Wiz told you already. And that makes sure that you not only feel motivated and inspired momentarily but for as long as it takes to reach your goal.

your gf also needs clothes , dinners etc., spend it on her if you really don't have any better idea, get more gfs which means you need more money

select yourself a very money intensive hobby like golf, sailing etc.

and you can also give some for charity at anytime

In my mind I want to make an income from now because later will be easier to live on without a 9-5 . Also some of my friends tell me that I loose time at PC and don't enjoy the childhood.Now i realize that I have all the time to do things. It's not that I am not social but I don't have so many friends and don't go out so often like others. Well that's me .

Oh and about a goal, well BMW Series 6 + Myself living in a luxury house is a goal that I have recently. Hope to achieve it..

It really depends on what kind of person are you, IMO.

Some people just have that drive in themselves that keeps them going - even at times when most other people would rather grab a beer and watch some TV

"Hunger" is also a pretty good motivator - if you really NEED to do something, you probably will.

Some great things already said! It's VERY hard to fix lack of motivation. It is very hard to teach the "want to". Most people, including myself, get the "want to" when they have finally had it with the life they are living!

Jim Rohn calls it, "the day that turns your life around"... It's the "I've had it"... "I'm sick of watching other people succeed while I'm surviving on peanuts" moment!

Having said that, I do find that keeping a daily journal of my work activity helps. I do find that can artificially motivate me into doing enough to at least enter some things in the book. It kind of crystallizes for me how much work is being done... and answers the questions of why we don't succeed.

I think Wiz said it best... we become "contented" where we are. It doesn't mean we "like it"... but we do become content with it. Predictable. Comfortable. People in prison find this to be true as well. We might say, man, what motivation to get out of there and do something else... but they become content with their situation. No different for us. Motivation and what we choose to live with is a very individual thing.

Even if you're not sure what specific goal you are after, ask yourself how that "thing" makes you "feel".

Now after reading these great comments , I've set myself some personal goals and how I want to be in the next 10 years

Motivation is spurred on by some lacking in one's life and the need to fulfill that unrealized need.

I don't post much, but..

"If i knew then what I know now"...

I'll try to make this story short I'm 29 and a little over a year and a half ago my wife and I both got laid off from our jobs. I was getting paid $80,000 yr and my wife was getting paid $60,000 yr at her job. we have 3 kids, mortgage, car notes (and everything else but the dog..lol). When i got laid off, I figured we were still in the clear because we had money saved up and my wife was still working. A couple of months later, she got laid off. We burned through our savings FAST to keep the bills paid while we both hunted for jobs... I managed to learn IM and make enough money to keep a roof over our heads, but it was a VERY STRESSFUL TIME, A VERY, VERY STRESSFUL TIME.. it was almost like someone putting a gun to my head saying that they would end my life if I didnt figure out how to make at least the bare minimum online. But i did and though I'm not making online what I use to make offline yet, I am able to stay at home with my wife and watch my kids grow. while my old co-workers are complaining about unemployment checks not being enough or complaining the EUC not passing the legislator, job huntings and complaining about the jobs that they do have, I am enjoying a simple life at home.

So while you might think* you don't have the need for money right now, it doesnt hurt to have a stash for rainy days or saving for the car that you want instead of settling for the car that is financially available.. or pay for college, or have cash on hand while your in college, or help your parents retire early if they haven't already. I know a kid (going to be a senior in high school this coming year) at one of my offline im marketing clubs that makes more money than his teachers and drives a bwm m3 to school that he paid for. but he has different things in his life that motivate him.

My motivation is to be able to go to my kids school events, be there without worrying how many days can I miss at work. Its about being able to go with them on school field trips and pay for what ever they need without worrying if I have money for the light bill, Its being able to have money for their college tuition and not having to work for another person ever! I actually can't see my self clocking in again. but, those are the some of the few things that motivate me.

So as someone stated earlier in this thread, picture yourself 10 years from now and go from there. good luck

break your day down into tasks, and set up a reward system. for each task done, you earn 5 minutes to watch a tv show, for the next task done, another 5 minutes of tv show. for another task, you reward yourself with a read of magazine, or a food, a music or look at porn, or something. lol

humans aren't motivated when the rewards for something come months after the task (IM, losing weight, whatever) so you need these immiedate rewards.

if something distracts you from work in daytime, like watching youtube. put it as a reward instead for work done.
