So, after violently writing and spinning material for my educational eBook I've decided that I was going to use my website to attempt to promote it. This book is an introductory informational piece to a programming language and is nearly 400 pages long. I've collected this information in bits and pieces while teaching myself various languages and then decided when I first joined BHW last year that I would start writing an piece in an attempt to monetize it.

The only problem is I'm not sure exactly how to go about monetizing this while making sure that my profits aren't completely destroyed by someone uploading it for free somewhere else, anybody with a brain is going to search to see if they can get a product for free before purchasing it. That's at least how I see it, anyway. I've been looking into methods for protecting the PDF, but it seems like I can't find anything.. My next option was going to be to create some sort of online PDF reader that people can use on my website, in which you can't copy/paste text. This will make it so only people who have purchased the book can view it.

Perhaps I'm over-thinking it.

Opinions on monetizing an eBook?

There's DRM but if someone wants to get rid of it, it isn't that difficult. If you see your book uploaded on diff filesharing sites you can also send a DMCA to them.

Kindle?

You need to realise that anything can be pirated. It might be worth giving it away for free and inserting affiliate links in the content instead, if it's an appropriate topic.

Otherwise, your best bet is just to sell it as a normal ebook and hope for the best...

Anything of any value will be up for torrents. Do like the above mentioned and throw some affiliate links in for extra bank then throw it up on every site that sells ebooks. I'd keep a copy on my own site and maybe give a small discount proportionate to what you save from fee's on something like kindle.
