I use namecheap. Free whoisguard + never had an issue. Customer service is top notch

from namecheap.com: Where is your company located? Namecheap, Inc. is a U.S. based company. Our address is: Namecheap.com 11400 W.Olympic Blvd. Suite 200 Los Angeles , CA90064 USA I would consider that a secure registrar. Stay away from any US connctions

and another +1 for namecheap I do keep my godaddy active for auction transfers but I get them over to namecheap as soon as I can.

During my stint in domaining, I looked into a lot of registrars, and ultimately I chose to go with NameSilo. I've been very pleased with them. And they offer a good amount of security--requiring you to answer 3 verification questions before making any kind of changes within your account. NameCheap seems to be ok as well from what I've heard, but I've never personally used them.
