Most Interesting ad ever - retargeting

My daughter (7 years old) has done some modeling for a kids clothing catalog and is in an independent film coming out next year.

My wife has spent some time browsing the online catalog for the clothing company. Today while working on homework, online with the kids... she get a pop up ad. The kid pictured, our daughter. Her brother said "hey, that's XXXX". My wife said why yes it is, the dresses shown, were the ones she browsed on the site last week.

and people complain about the NSA.

yeah is called retargeting... as you said in the tittle. The shocking thing I guess is seeing your own children on the retargeted ad.

correct, though I don't know if that was coincidence or the result of my wife browsing the page(s) where my daughter was the model. Though I am sure that ad agencies know more about us than the NSA does.
 
Well just ask your wife if she visited the website where that popup ad leads to.

It's illegal for companies to get certain type of data.

It's just big data bruh, I would not be worried.
 
I'm not worried, rather impressed. I want to be able to target ads that effectively.
 
Yah with AdWords retargeting you can retarget to users who visit specific pages of your site. Off the top of my head flippa.com does this well. Browse an auction and you'll get retargeting ads featuring that auction. AdWords just made it even easier to set this up to. They just came out with a tool that basically does all the work for you.
 
It's no biggie OP, you can use google retargetting or adroll for this, once you visit a website with adroll or google retargetting code on, cookie will be dropped on your computer and whereever you go, their ads will follow through.

Well maybe the studio where the pictures were taken is near to your house or city, that plus the keyword that you wife used helps a lot to that coincidence.
