As per Matt Cutts and Rand it would be developing such amazing content that other users would be naturally compelled to link to you. (like Wikipedia).

It is a big research process depends on your niche.

In general:
would say, PR publishing & Content Distribution/marketing.

I think relevant guest blogging is still a robust method to generate quality inbound backlinks.

Submit your website to all the top Socialbookmarking sites.
Create link wheel

old question, but the same bothered answers that if you want to create a lot of backlinks, you should offer content of a high quality. There are niches where the quality of content will not bring you the necessary results. For example, gambling, casinos etc or that niches where people do mot like to share content because of the website niche. So what to do?

first of all remember that you shouldn't make any posts on the sites that are spammy. If they are spammy-it's a signal for google that your website manipulate back links. How to check the website for spam? The easiest way - to install majestic seo add-on for chrome and for mozila. If the spam leve exceeds trust level it means practically 100% that donor is spammy. ( majestic uses more simple algorithms than google, so it will be helpful to use it to get rid of suspicious websites).

the bext step is just to chek the traffic of the website or ask webmaster (there is no reason to set link if the traffic is lower than 1000 uniques per month. then check the website niche or subsections of an appropriate niche and then check how these sites are indexing and how much pages are there on index of search engine.

you can place the link in authors profile or in the body of article. Remember that better to post non-anchor links and write near ir the keywords of the page on ehat you want to place link

Buying backlinks is also a good one.

I read such tips every day.....But i don't think it will work...It works for Big websites as you said wikipedia.....
