As other members may have noticed, I bring my technical computer problems to the lounge. Now, do not get it confused, I always do my g00gle searches and everything, but I like to get my final advice from the "black hat brotherhood". And everytime I follow the advice of fellow BHW members, I always come out on top.

Here is my latest delima, "I fucked up !". Point, blank, and basic. I installed something called "cccleaner" on my laptop. well after doing that I ran the cleaner, and I think I deleted something detrimental to my computer.

At first I could not run files such as excel, then when I went to IE to edit my Internet options it said I did not have access, contact system administrator. And finally, when I shut my computer down, upon rebooting it said something about a missing or corrupted file with Win 32 (Not sure of exact words. I do not have the laptop with me)

It was telling me to put in a disk for rebooting. The problem is, I do not have a Windows XP disk. I bought my laptop refurbished a few weeks ago, and XP was already installed on there.

    My questions are,

    What should I do ?

Will I lose all of my files ?

    Thanks in advance ! :pcguru::eek:

Have you tried safe mode or something? When you get your laptop tell us the details.

I would try safe mode first, and back up your data if it works. Another option is to attempt to use windows system restore function. I am not sure if it is possible to reinstall win 32 files, but I guess you could try to.

If those don't work your best option would be to download a copy of windows XP and reinstall the OS. Keep in mind drivers are probably going to be a pain to find because laptops tend to have proprietary hardware.

Try to access the boot menu (F8 after system POST) and try to access your PC in safe mode. If you can reboot, F8 again and there should be an option which is something like: "Last known Good Configuration".

Select that and see if it works, if it doesn't do as helaughs says and try system restore from safe mode. Good luck.

your system files are screwed up.. better take a backup and try system restore if it works ..otherwise reinstall is best option.. or u can try windows repair option during the installation process..but it takes much longer than the re-installation process.

Did CCleaner do a backup before deleting files? If so restore it.

I am not sure if it did or not. But even if it did I cannot get back into Windows to restore it.

I am upset that I asked about this while my computer is not with me. I am going to try everything posted here as soon as I get home from work in the morning.

Try a system restore in safe mode, it should setup admin back to an early period.. Just make sure it was that program and not something else.. I use CCleaner as well, but only use the default settings aside from firefox cache..

CCleaner isn't the problem. I've used it for years!!!

I install it on all my clients computers, family, and friends. Fantastic program...

Your problem is likely something else such as a virus.

Definitely not CCleaner. Been using it for 2 years. Maybe you used the uninstaller part of it and uninstalled something with the program. When you are doing whatever you are doing always create a system restore. It asks you if you want to do it before you uninstall.

I am pretty sure it is the problem. But I am the one who fucked up. I was attempting to download something that I had before, and needed to erase the traces of the program. So in the instructions of what I was doing it said download CCcleaner. Once I did that, instead of reading the instructions from what I was doing, I acted like a know-it-all, and ran CCcleaner and started erasing shit. I read the instructions afterwards and realized that I was not suppose to do anything that I did.

Yeah, looks like its deleted a system file or something....

Use 'System file check until' (sfc.exe) - Comes with windows....

    Command: sfc /scannow

Note: You will need your original xp cd with sp2 Inc.

Use safemode with command prompt or use your win xp cd and use 'recovery console' (you need to press 'R' when boot ing from cd)

The above will fix any broken/corrupt or missing system files and with a bit of luck you could be back up and running in no time....

    Good luck

Dude restore your computer to earlier date and you'll have your corrupted file back to normal. Maybe your cccleaner corrupted some of your fragile Windows32 files. If you restore computer is off, get into safe mode, make a backup and reinstall the window.
