Hi BHW.

Now I've always heard SEO is fundamentally 2 things : Content, and links.
So I built links and doubled the amount of articles on my site.
What happened ? My traffic is dropping.

Imagine that :
October 2023 :
89 RDs
51 Articles
1900 Traffic

January 2024 :
213 RDs
78 Articles
1600 traffic.

Would be happy to hear some advice.

Hi,
Usually that means that content quality is low.
Also, check your indexed/nonindexed pages in GSC.

Thanks for the advice.
Quality wise I'm definitely on par with what's ranking, if not better.

Some of my reviews include in-depth testing of the products with pictures, and end up in the butthole of google. Meanwhile, an article with 2 short paragraphs is on page one, and doesn't even have the word "review" in their title while the query is "Review product x" (ofc this is a big publisher).

Regarding indexed/nonindexed, yes I have tons non indexed pages in GSC but does that matter ? Ahref is only showing indexed pages anyway. And I still have 200% more indexed pages compared to 2 months ago.

Disavow irrelevant links , check with analyze your site is there any issues like slow speed and also it make cause because of algorithm changes.

Your traffic is dropping on Ahrefs, but is it actually dropping on any system you use to track actual traffic (analytics etc), rather than estimated traffic as in Ahrefs' case?

Unfortunately this is subjective, and comes down to how much trust Google has in your domain.

Thanks will try that.

Ahref makes the big picture more obvious.
On GSC the traffic is dropping slower and is more or less tanking now.

I think this is the problem, and I don't know what you can do about it. Google are downright evil lately, and it's by design, so you're kind of screwed. Just black hat the shit out of your site if you can and hope for the best

I think, It's possible that you are doing everything right but still not increase your traffic comparing previous times, Because the reason of your competition is doing better part,

Make some changes like improving your content quality, Articles words(+1000 words), Include visuals, formatting, and consider to high quality backlinks,

Also, keep an eye on your competitors by analyzing and monitoring their social media, link building strategies, and content marketing.

Make sure that your website is mobile friendly and with proper on page structure. Do keyword research and target more long tail keywords. Publish more quality articles with internal linking for better navigation and to keep the audience engaged. You can focus on adding quality links from relevant sources with anchor diversification.

You lost positions to your existing pages (the ones you had in Oct). You need to figured out who won the positions you lost and they do that you don't.

Your quality doesn't need to be better than your previous reviews, but better than your competitors'.

As site owners we often think about our site as a single entity, but more often than not, Google (at least in theory) tries to show the user pages that fot their query.
So even if your review is better than other reviews you posted before, it might still not be the best result to show to the user.
