Morals or Fortune?

Just wanted to gauge others perspective on this subject.

I understand the choice between individual morals or fortune is not necessarily binary but on more occasions than one it would appear that people would be faced with the choice a lot in life.

So the question here is, so far in life which did you sway towards the most?

EDIT: The response on the thread is quite interesting already! Considering the majority of the fortune 500 share holders have without a doubt chosen " Fortune " . Ousting partners, neglecting private life and family..etc.

Morals all the way.

Im sure they’ll be many opportunities where I could profit if I set aside my morals but I personally know that I wouldn’t be able to keep that off my mind.

I know for a fact there are people here who wouldn’t bat an eye when it comes to going against morals.

Still, people can change

Good question that I also think about quite often. I have a bunch of profitable "black hat" schemes in my head that I will never act on because they are unethical and may potentially harm innocent people.

Definitely morals. I don't like screwing others over for profit. I think in the long term it will be better for my piece of mind.

Definitely morals

I would rather live in a tree house or a wooden hut next to the lush beauty of a tropical rainforest surrounded by exquisite and sensational scents and sounds of nature as I bathe in a hot spring, be invigorated by the freshest of airs of lakes and mountains and drift away to the gentle breeze of the ocean, under a starry and serene night sky next to my beloveds,,, than give away my morals for money

As I expected, very interesting response so far. I edited the main post with my personal outlook on how things resolve for the most successful people on the planet.

Can you explain why you think that investing your money in a company you believe in, has a negative impact on morals?

Hard to define morals as they can be pretty subjective.
But let say morals as i wouldn't do anything directly to anyone that would cause them harm just for my own good.

But i don't agree on your last part, what being a shareholder has anything to do with morals?
I know there are people who are saying that investing, trading and any form of speculation is immoral, but i think that's just bullshit.

As mentioned previously I believe the two are not necessarily binary as elements like risk could come in to play too however as it is with a lot of " make or break " choices in life you are more often than not stuck choosing between the two.

An example of that would be your wife asking to expand on a studio apartment to accommodate your newborn child all while you have an option to fully invest all of your finances in to a " sure fire " venture on your table. If this works out, you are potentially the hero if not you lose out on quite a lot in life. Either way the choice was made to invest all of your finances in to a project without a guaranteed outcome over your newborn child and wife cramped in a small space.

This is assuming an individual is investing in a " general " venture. Otherwise I would imagine it would automatically become immoral if this new company was involved in fraudulent activity or otherwise.

Don't be moved with the answers. Aside from morality being subjective, most folks will claim to be guided by morals but will screw you without a second thought. Another thing is that people confuses morality with legality.

Words means nothing and actions speaks louder than words. Use the real world reality to reach a conclusion.

A wise man has this to say:
People acts mostly for their own interest and in response to their 2 basic emotions; which are greed and fear. That is the rule and the contrary is an exception.

Quality response. Which begs the question. How many of the people who answered " Morals " would truly answer to that if it came down to it?

neglecting private life and family..etc., Lol this, what use the fortune than?
and you cannot put clear line on those. i know people that very abmorral to others (steal,lie, corrupt,bribe etc2 you name it), but have very different face in his own family, in his own family is know as kind and good husband and parent.

One of the finest examples of this could very well be the person who was always shoved down everyone's throat for decades. Steve Jobs. Neglected family and ousted long life friends out of his company. Never bothered to out any crazy fantasies or at the very least show off his lavish life either.

Well, I don't think this's a question of morality except the spouse is living in a realy squalid condition.
You can always deny yourself and loved ones some present comfort for a better future.

Sure it's not always easy, and yeah they may sometimes think you are mean.. but you have got to make tough calls in life anyway. You just have to learn how to explain and negotiate with her/them. It's your responsibility to make sure she/they understand the reason behind your action.

If you've done all you could do, and she's being unreasonable and would rather want you to spend all for present comfort, please, let her go. She's not there for you. Either she leaves now or she will leave in the future when you have wasted everything and she sees you are finished.

These are words from a doting husband and father.

well we don't now the full story, maybe her wife cheat,because if you read on, she live with her father in the end. And her daughter also monetize the story as book for money.
btw Jobs live isn't that richie rich.
he got kicked from apple a company he made from strach, and pretty sure he have many dark moment on live, most Self made Rich people have it.

I have a friend who became really rich as a casino affiliate - he doesn't feel too well psychologically today. At one point he was smiling but you could see has completely broken from the inside.

Kind of scared me to be honest.
