Hello
I recently purchased an expired domain from godaddy , it was really good belongs to well known Newspaper . tons of clean and good backlinks .
The domain is still indexed by SE's .


just when i started to put a strategy for that domain i was shocked when i found out that the Newspaper is still in business ! , they abandoned the old domain and moved to new one just to get rid of the Hyphen ! .
Now after 10 months of moving they have no visitors , 2Million at alexa , they are hosting at IP shared with hundreds of websites , even their brand name return MY domain at G (first result ) .


Same content is available at the new domain ( i can tell from wayback machine ) , i can grab it in about 2 days (already started ) ,thousands of unique articles ,news and images .


what do you advice me here ?

No dilemma here, you have no idea if they even want it back despite your reasoning. The very nature of buying expired domains means that you're getting hold of a website that used to belong to a legitimate business or website, it happens. If they ask for it back, that's another matter...depends if you're a nice guy, mercenary or the domain is just too good for you to pass up.
 
Most likely they will suspend your domain, or at least hosting, with copyright violation complain.


You might try to do this for a while, get traffic, sell it, but don't expect to do this for long.
 
Well ,Thanks myopic1 , what about the technical section , Can i use their content ? accourding to G it is my content now , right ? if i grabbed the content off their new website and resurrect the old one , what may happens ?
 
Now the interesting part is when you get a website linked to a Paypal/bank/Apple account, that's happened to me so many times that I wonder how many people use this in a way that's less than honourable.

Unless you created the content, you definitely do not own it or have any claim to it, it's intellectual property pure and simple...my advice would be to leave it alone and get on with your own thing.
 
Now myopic1 , that is not my field , i am just interested in impressions , it is a newspaper anyway . no payments involved .

Yeah just an observation on my part, makes me wonder how many other domain miners it's happened to.

Nice idea , the domain has PR 5 , with content and and good SERPS , it might collect a fortune , how long the DMCA takes to be in action ?
 
Dont copy their content what good will that do?

Build a website on it and rank it. Or put it in your pbn

Just because they let the domain expire doesn't mean they give up their copyright to their content. If you try to use their content you will most certainly get DMCA'd. Being a newspaper good chance they would pursue actual legal action as well.
 
You can use the domain name with your own unique content but if you put their content on your domain, expect a DMCA notice very soon.
