Hi guys. As the title is saying, I'm looking for someone who is actually living in CA or have a good knowledge about it, because i need pretty exact numbers. I have a plan, and that is involving moving there. I am interested in the Walnut Creek / San Ramon zone, or somewhere around those places. I'm willing to know about the rent, the food and also the public transportation, and any expenses you know i can have. Also if you have some ideas about sharing the place with someone else, at least for some months, until everything goes right.
Thank you!

Not really sure about the expenses in that area but I am down in San Diego and living expenses really depend on the area you live. You can pay anywhere from $400-$2000 per month depending on where you live but I would say the average is around $700-$1100 per month for most places that don't have a bad crime rate. As for the food it can get pretty expensive if you eat out a lot as most of the time your bill will be around $5-$15 for fast food and about $10-$30 for a sit down meal. It is much better if you cook at home and buy groceries at the local supermarkets. Expect to spend around $1-3 for bread, $3-4 gallon milk, $2-3 for 12 eggs, etc... As for public transportation you can ride the bus/trolley for around $5 all day.

Living on your own in California (LA for me) is not cheap. If I had to add every single expense together like rent, gas, internet, phone, food it would be around 2,500 a month. Our public transit is just pretty much just buses we do not have a good subway system like they do on the eastcoast. So unless you buy a car you won't be able to get around as much as you would like to.

Walnut Creek shouldnt cost too much. SF LA SD are always gonna be expensive but a smaller town/city can make it affordable. Walnut Creek is close enough to the Bay too so whenever you do wanna hit the city it shouldnt be too long of a drive.

here in my place we spend only $10 eating breakfast , lunch and dinner :D and were 5

Thanks all for replies. I will generally eat at home, because my fiancee will be with me so there will be someone who can cook! :)
Any ideas about some cheap mobile plans and internet connection?
Thanks a lot.
