Money means energy. Energy is aim for every living being and also cold-dead mattery like stars, galaxies. We fight for it. We exchange meat or plants for a new exchange system. But rules stay the same. These are the rules of this universe we live in. Money represents power. Power represents you are strong. You are strong - you reproduce and give genes. You can fulfill your ego. That's why everyone fights for money and power. Money is like gravitation, it makes you floating around with speed.
Does money offer happiness? No. As a new exchange system, they represent just another level of evolution. At the highest point energy is balanced and it's gone.

Okay so I've been better off, where money essentially grew on trees - I won't go into why but I didn't have to worry about money at all - Fancy sports cars, never cleaning/cooking, traveling, buying WHATEVER I wanted, you name it. I have also been very poor, right now I don't have much money at all.
What I can tell you is that it wont buy you happiness in the literal sense, but it buys you security, and the ability to do the things you enjoy that WILL give you happiness.
I've had depression since 3rd grade and had it even with all that money - I was still depressed.
