Hey fellas, I was thinking about the following setup and I want to hear your opinion and experience if it still works today:

I run an IG page dedicated to fishing (fishing videos and pics) and have the link to my dropshipping store in bio where I sell fishing accessories as well as clothing like t-shirts for fishermen.

I am open to run ads to profile to grow the following faster.

Does it still work? And how soon can I expect to start making first sales?

Thanks

I think you will benefit from great top of funnel awareness — however, this does not mean that you will instantly make tonnes of sales and be bathing in cash. There was an influencer recently who had 3m followers and failed to sell 30 T-shirt’s. How you can learn from this is realising that you have the ‘trust’ or ‘awareness’ element sorted; however, people aren’t waking up in the morning expecting to buy. Therefore you need to push them to the conversion. What this means in practice is this simple:

1. Create a FB ads audience for your followers
2. Run conversion ads to your followers for products
3. Retarget the **** out of website viewers/add to cart

Just please please please don’t expect that because you have loads of followers people will buy. You have to put in just as much effort as people with no followers except you have a head start.

You are in a good position to test it out. Just set up a test link to an affiliate website that offers what you want to offer. If it converts you know you should jump it.

I almost never suggest dropshipping unless you absolutely have to. Do you know the quality of those products? Are you prepared to deal with the customer service side of things if delivery doesn't work out? Or if the product is faulty?

It's all about building an audience and treating that audience as your friends. If you recommend them good products they will be happy, if you're just trying to make money and don't give them value they will leave. Everything is still "possible" you just have to give people what they want. Think like a customer. Treat them as you would like to be treated and you will succeed.

Thank you guys for your feedback. I am not brand new in marketing and I know what audience is and how to treat it. Thanks for the advices though.

I wanted to know how things are from the experience of those who actually do it. Not in theory. I know that in theory it should work. But from real recent experience.

In any case, thanks for chiming in and sharing your thoughts.

Some cold numbers I got from doing lots of shoutouts with IG and dropshipping:

Requirements
Followers: +200k
Engagement rate: +2%

This numbers might change depending on the niche.

Conversion depends also in your store convertion rate, so a great store with superb peoduct descriptions will need less IG requirements to get sales.

Note that you can't sell the same item to the same audience many times, so plan to rotate between various products. IG audience is fixed, it is not a LLA FB audience where you get fresh prospects every time.

Good point on the fresh products!

As to the numbers, what are these exactly? Your IG account numbers?
How much are you making from that?

Minimum requirements to get sales from a IG account. Yours, mine, third party, etc.

Profit depends on your margin and product quality.

BTW it takes a lot of time and effort (and content) to build a IG account with such characteristics. It is not magic.

You wanna say that below 100k there are no sales? How about people who are checking your profile before following you and some of them visiting your store and buy stuff? Does it not happen while you are growing the acc?

Some, but I wont expect that to be my main source of sales.

I guess as soon as you git 10k subs you can use the audience to your advantage to run fb ads more profitably.

What's your main source of sales?
Yes, you always can drive traffic from FB and IG is a good source for your pixel.

Right now my main (and only) source of sales is SEO. My Business Manager got banned by FB so I am looking for alternatives to be independent from Zuckerberg empire.

Yeah man, I got one fb acc banned too. Hence I started thinking to diversify the traffic and income sources.

I was looking into Pinterest not that long time ago. It gets a bit crazy too as I heard.
