Monetizing Article directories

I am running up an article directory since this December. It reached alexa 40k, around 22k email verified members and 60k published articles.
still i am winding up with just $2-$5 a day on adsense.
please give in your inputs in this thread to monetize such directories to their potential.
may be it could help lot of noobs like me

How much traffic do you achieve daily? What is your ctr, is it an english content?

1k visits daily, around 1.1% adsense CTR and full english content

How do you have 60k articles with 1k visits daily. It seems to be low. You should invest in backlinks.
