Monetized videos - now what?

Before I start, I'll just say that all of this is completely new to me. I've always made money online by selling bits and pieces on eBay now and again, but after reading some of the success stories about other people online I've decided to really have a go at making a living online.

So I started a YouTube channel using a really old account I had about 12 days ago. I had an idea for some short entertainment clips to upload and got straight to work uploading. First thing I done was switched on monetization/AdSense.

So, 12 days later here's where I'm at:

1.5k subscribers
400k views
1.3m minutes watched
2k likes / 33 dislikes
$880 generated in AdSense
Average view duration 4:30, retention rate of 75%

The videos are all under the entertainment category.

There's still a lot of growth with around 200+ new subs per day and I still have some content left to upload. The question now is where do I go from here? I want to branch out and start bringing in other potential revenue streams. I have done absolutely no advertising/marketing at this point, and I have no discernible web building/SEO experience. Some potential ideas I had were:

Should I bring other people in at this point, or is it too early?
Should I have a site developed? How I'd monetize that though, I'm unsure.
Social networking. Is there any extra money to be made from my viewers by getting them onto a social networking platform? I can appreciate that from a marketing standpoint it'd perhaps increase my potential audience, but is there any other income (outside of AdSense) to be made here?

Any ideas at all would really be appreciated!

Yes.

I could try to keep growing yt subs and make fb and twt community. The important thing here is to have a big community, if you can make it, then you can upload any video you want (original of course) and you'll still earn money from it, search for the "how to basics" channel on youtube and watch what I'm trying to tell you about...

You say short entertainment clips? Are they of yourself or have you just strung other peoples videos together?

I believe that OP producing videos by himself and generating pretty much decent content.

Youtube monetization is big money... When I reached partner unexpectedly, I just enabled all my own-content videos for monetization.
The result was $5 a month on videos that are from around 2008.

Like no joke, my highest earning video is a REALLY bad python tutorial about python 3.0 that isn't even relevant these days.
I'm talking cropped notepad "talking" with no audio. It was bad even for its time, I'm so ashamed of it I almost want to remove it.
But its earning 5 bucks a month without me doing anything, so no real reason to do that.


God knows what some dude screaming and running into a wall with spandex on while holding a camera could earn.

Edit: I apologize for this post. I haven't slept in over 24 hours and my attention span flew out the window and down the street.
When I wake up, i'll come write about stuff I have observed youtubers doing in the past. I was excited, and it looks like I wrote some kind of off-track response to fatjay2.

Okay, so you have a successful youtube channel. Well done sir.

From what I can tell, youtubers keep youtube as their Teir 1 or Tier 2 revenue stream. That means, the have to or simply want to keep creating quality videos for viewers. The more videos you have, the higher rate of exposure to new viewers, and the more time existing or new viewers will remain on your channel watching your videos.

Creating a community, as said, is definitely on the list. All the social aspects. It creates more user interaction, and further increases your exposure.


Something I see very commonly and I think is a good idea, is a blog and some form of merchandise related to your channel.
Sxephil for example, sells t-shirts, and a LOT of them. In fact, he often mentions in his videos regarding new shirts, or shirts that are
limited, or sold out fast, etc.

Create a website/blog. Write a short story or something regarding the video on your blog, and post short synopsis of new videos on social sites like facebook or twitter. If people like a single video in particular, they will be willing to visit a site to read more about it.

That site and/or blog post is your opportunity to try and sell them merchandise or get them to sign up for related affiliates.

That is all I can think of now. Certainly a lot of work to get started. Make a video asking your users what they'd like to see in non-youtube interaction! Surely you'd get some other interesting ideas.

Basically, just expand your channel, get more views, and post more videos, that's really all there is to it, your content seems to be working well for you, I am surprised with stats like that that you are even asking for suggestions as to what more to do, because you are doing great.

Create a blog site for your YT channel. If you're channel is about entertainment, you can create other channels like gaming,tutorials and etc. Feature each channel and you'll earn more.
