Hey, I just got a google voice beta invitation. I was searching for some good phone numbers and got one that I think is pretty good. The phone number is like this (205) LSU-WINS (205 578-9467) Do you think any local business near a college campus like LSU would be interested in purchasing this or am I naive for thinking this? It seems like it would be worth the money in my opinion, just looking for everyone's thoughts on the idea

I didn't think you actually "owned" the number as it is more of a forwarding/relay service, no?

yes it does, sure of it. you can sell those things. go on CL and advertise it.
People sell google voice accounts all the time on CL. put up an add and see what happens.

You could try conventional advertising towards businesses as well. Make up a speech about how great this number is going to be because everyone will remember their number, blah blah.
If you push 411 and get an operator instead of an automated system tell them your city and then ask them which businesses people often call to get the number for. This is really more of a rural trick as most cities will use automated systems or tell you to fuck off. I used to work as an operator though and I still remember about 5 places that we would always get calls about.
If you get that info use it in your sales pitch to those businesses, "Do you know how I found you? I called 411 and asked which number is always being looked up!"
Anyway, even if that doesn't work try delivery places that have your same area code. Should be able to get some decent offers there.

I had a number that was 657-8779, which is 65P-USSY, I thought about selling to a sex store or even a pet store, but never followed through with it.

Check out when the dude tried to sell 212 867 5309, it made it all the way up to 150k before ebay and the fcc shut him down. turns out you can't sell the number but you can sell the account if it goes with the tos. having it on a prepaid is the best way to go.
