I signed up for a mobile proxy with Smartproxy but the tiktok app would not download at all so ended up downloading without the proxy and then had it running and set for SOCKS5 when I created my account. I’ve got a sim in with the phone number for the country I want to target and I’m using an iphone 8 plus with location services off and set to airplane. Would downloading the app without the proxy made tiktok aware that I’m in a different country to the one I want to target. Also are Smartproxy reliable?

If you download TikTok without using a proxy, TikTok can determine your geographic location based on information from your IP address and other traces from your device. If you then use a proxy to run the app, TikTok can still detect that you are trying to spoof your location, especially if you frequently switch between countries or your IP address and other settings are out of sync
In that case would a residential proxy be better than a mobile one?
I’m thinking of getting a residential static IP with IP Royal. Are they any good?

They work but you have to remember it is rotating every 6 minutes.

What did you use to set up the proxy on your phone?
I used Potatso
I have signed up with another proxy company that had good reviews and have got a residential static IP that isn’t rotating. I’ve put the IP into IPQS and all was good, much better than SmartProxy.

Yes, TT can access your real IP/geolocation when you're downloading so it potentially could log this information and associate it with your device/account. You can test if proxies you're using are leaking IP/DNS/WebRTC with websites like ipleak / dnsleaktest / browserleaks
Will do thanks for your help. There is one thing, when I create a new account with tiktok is it better to use email or the phone number that came with the sim card of country I’m wanting to target?
I have just tested the proxies and there’s a leak, the proxy is with IP Royal. Can you recommend a residential static proxy company? Thanks.

I believe Potatso is known to cause leaks.
What do you recommend instead of potatso?

check on ip info app (blue) that your proxy is working on apps like appstore and tiktok
I’ve given up with this mobile proxy and iphone 7 as no apps would download from the app store so downloaded the tiktok app with it off and after I created the new tiktok account no videos I liked would save to my profile so I have bought a cheap android and will try with that. Maybe I’ll have better luck?
