Hey I was just wondering if anyone believes a mobile car wash would be successful?

I'm thinking of just going to peoples homes and washing their car using waterless car wash products for less than the cost of if they'd go to a normal car wash. Also it would be very convenient as they would not have to wait around at a car wash for their car to be cleaned.

I'm only 17 by the way so would this effect my results?
Marketing would be mostly offline with fliers being placed in the letterboxes in the local area.

I tried this once. I met or learned about this person's service via CL. He came to my house and did a detail cleaning of my car. I had a Nissan Xterra at the time. He charged me $80, I gave him $100. Took him about 2 hours. While cleaning my car he carried a sign which he placed on the street. That was a great idea. If you could get 2 clients per day you could do $160-$200 per day which is not bad. Just you would have to pay for gas, supplies, car insurance, etc.

Well, all things considered, you gotta take into account the population density. Hit high-traffic areas with those flyers such as malls, or outlets, or even a gas station.

Once you accrue a little bit of capital, put some 'ads' in local gas stations or...Why not, your local McDonalds?
You are marketing to the lazy people who don't want to get up and go someplace to do something. And if you're willing to do it for cheaper while they lounge around in their house...Thats a huge plus.
Just target areas like that and you should be solid. Good idea...Just make sure you do a good job washing those cars cause referrals and returning customers are king!

It's a good way to build some capital for bigger things at least. That thing with the sign was pretty smart, and could land you some extra work. Remember to put in your best efforts though, if the customer is very happy he'll probably talk about you to his neighbours also.

You can also make a referral program, giving 10-20% off the price for each client the customer sends your way.

You could charge after; its not likley they will refuse to pay since you know where they work or live.

    Yes, it works.

Mobile detailing services are a good gig to make some quick cash.

Payment is usually done after work has been completed.

Try to get a good looking gal to help you and watch your closing rates go up.

I did this when I was 16, put some flyers around my complex and it worked, but don't be afraid to go big, I've seen many professional service vans on the road that offer mobile detail and car wash so there probably is a market.

Don't just stop with cars, learn about detailing motorcycles as well. I would take a picture of a dirty car/motorcycle/whatever and then a picture of it after you clean it to show people. If you live in an area with boats, you can make some good money cleaning those. People will pay a lot to have their boat cleaned but you will need special cleaning supplies.

This is definitely a scalable business idea. You can start with a basic wash and later offer waxing/detailing.

You should ask for payment after you've done the job, or at least I would. If you do a good job people will pay.

It should work perfectly! You can even do SEO for the keyword "mobile carwash (city name)" and take advantage over the competition. I've seen this kind of services a lot, remember to make a difference (friendly customer service, always on time, a little christmas tree as gift) and add before and after photos to your portfolio.

It's a good idea. A friend of mine does it. He details new cars at a Chevy dealership. Makes good money.

Awesome plan you have there. Like what has been said, you want to put your 100% best efforts into your work. Word of mouth is the very best advertising there is. If someone sees how "such a wonderful job your doing", be prepared to be bombarded with work.

After a while, you might ask yourself though, "Do I have enough time to continue with IM?" :p

Anyways, best of luck to you OP!

Once you have enough money, I would then post your service on CL and hire other people to do it for me ;)

Hopefully I'll be starting next week, I just thought of a great way to advertise. I can just put flyers on people's windscreens of their cars at shopping centers etc. Is this legal?

I actually just wrote a business plan for a premium version of this for my entrepreneurship class. I will definitely work especially if you can have a team to send around.

I take it you are talking about the waterless wash system ? Theres no easier way to make regular money than washing cars but you wont be getting paid $100 to do it.

For $100 I want my car clay bar flattened, buffed and polished. A good detailer can make a lot of money but he will spend years learning how to be good and will also invest a lot of money back into quality wax products.

If you are just offering a quick wash type system then your best bet would be to target a big company and offer deals to get the business.

For example theres a large Telecommunications company about a mile from me. Every time I drive passed there are 600 + cars parked in the carpark all day. If you got in with a place like this, offering a loyalty system of buy four washes and the fifth one is free etc then you should be busy everyday.

Yes. It does bring money and reputation if only you provide with quality work. You will be getting recurring clients and everything. You also need to promote yourself in offline ways of business such as classifieds. Add social media to it. Work hard and bank hard.

I see someone doing it the other day - they were offering a high end service by the looks of it, as they have high power water compressor and so on.

Only thing is, if you are doing small scale, maybe best to target a street at a time, rather than advertising - then you have a lot of customers in close proximity, otherwise, if you advertise then you are likely to get customers spread out over a bigger area, and then it's not as cost effective as you can't get anywhere near as many done.
