Hi. I'm wondering if it's profitable to develop and publish apps on Android and iOS.

I'm talking about apps that can be made as a solo dev or a small team.

Is it risky and difficult to get users, or still a decent way to make money?

Its a great business if you know how to research on what apps to make. I have been in this business from last 2 years generated more than 15k$ but still struggle to rank some apps as the competition is growing by day. You can still make good money with apps.

I have apps in multiple categories like dating, tools, productivity. All does good but mostly it all depends on app for what kind of monetization to use.

ah cool, how do you promote your apps? i have 2 ai apps, 1 streaming app... and i promote with google but its very expensive. And what do you think which of your apps are the best, i mean the category, like dating, crypto...

Running ads to drive installs can be really expensive if the ads aren't properly optimized and ai apps are getting high CPI. Are your apps generating any revenue ?
