Mixing black hat with white hat techniques

This may be a stupid question, but I am wondering if it's considered good practice to combine both black hat and white hat techniques?

Was thinking about it and it seems with black hat, you risk getting banned from search engines, which would then nullify any white hat stuff you were doing. Is this a correct assumption or way off base? Hoping someone can chime in with experience in both areas.

Building multiple drop shipping stores and considering my options for driving traffic.

You definitely should use both white- and blackhat techniques. In order to minimise the risk, make sure to use tiered linkbuilding:
It basically means you have a bunch of websites where you point your blackhat links to and then link to your moneysite from there. This way, if Google penalises one of your Tier 1 websites, you can simply abandon it.
 
There is a great chance to rank with black hat SEO, so my advice is not to miss it.
Usually Google searching for value, so keep your website with a good value so it will be safe from penalties
 
You are talking about Grey hat certainly :) That's always been a hot topic in SEO industry since years and each professional has unique opinion about this depending on their case study. Doing black hat is always under scanner and good risk, you need to decide how much you will lose in any otherwise situation. For any event site, people do lots of black hat since these websites are built for small time big earnings and it does not matter to them what will happen to the site after 6 months if Google bans it. If looking to build a long term reputed business website , its better you avoid pure black hat. However drop shopping itself is a risky business since it depends on people reviews, cheaper prices.. so better you go building the high authority links in legitimate ways.
 
Ok so, let's imagine,
for doing blackhat, it's like you killed 10 people. And for whitehat, you killed nobody.

Let's mix them, so you now have killed 5 people. You are arrested.

Sorry just a joke.

imagines... google guidelines say backlinks to rank sites... but google algorithms penalises sites for too much backlinks, overoptimising of sites, too much anchor texts ratios and such.... isn't that contradictings of googles?

like Nargil saying... no such thing as whitehat SEOs.
 
Thanks for the feedback. I see what you're saying. Funny because this site has a 'White Hat SEO' forum. LOL.

The SEO game is an interesting one. At times it seems overwhelmingly frustrating and yet, it feels like if you can get to Google's first page, or better yet, the top of the first page, the chance of success can be quite high.

What is value of a website with messy backlink profile? You should balance between black and white SEO techniques. Google developers are smart to check your backlink profile, so take care to make it diverse.
Try outreach for a change or some other white hat techniques.

The value should be on the website itself, I didn't mean the Backlinks, so if your website is really valuable it is an opportunity to the search engines to deliver it in the top results, this usually help to optimize the search engine itself.
Sure you need to do much white hat work, I just mentioned to also not to miss the black hat work!
 
OP, knowing all the risk is what it takes for. You should assess your goal and needs.
 
probably said already but all you do yourself to your page is not white hat ...... so how can you combine it ??? ;)

how do you call it if you boost a real white hat link to your page ????

then you don't do blackout to your page ..... you do blackout to another with has a real white hat link to you ;)

Its all about following rules smartly within a limitation.
 
There are people here taking what you said out of context but ehh I guess it's informative. An attempt to manipulate your ranking and gain a better one is considered 'offensive'. However, google does still allow it to some degree. Anyways as for your question, yes do both. It's what gets you sites lasting longer than a year with manipulated rankings.

I don't "believe" in hats when it comes to SEO.

However, I understand what you mean....

No problem mixing things up. In fact, you might still hold strong even if you are busted for your BH tactics thanks to your WH ones.
 
^ A good example of this is rapgenius/genius :) They grew with black hat tactics and now they dominate the lyrics niche

If I do any SEO on purpose, that's against ToS straight away. There's no white or black, there's just SEO.
 
All about your Risk Tolerance, i stick to med risk

Low Risk - hand made comment posts, outreach guest posts, infographic pumping, vegetarians

Med Risk - Private Blog network, Paid guest posts

High Risk - Public blog network, Sape links, GSA like programs, steak 3 meals a day
