Mining on phones still viable?

I totally understand where e-spider is coming from, having a bunch of phones lying around with downtime can be a great opportunity to utilize them for something else. However, as others have mentioned, crypto mining on phones isn't as profitable as it used to be, and the energy costs can be a major drawback. That being said, if you can find a way to get free or cheap electricity, it might be worth exploring some alternative coins that have a lower difficulty level, such as Monero or Ravencoin. Has anyone had any experience with these coins or know of any other viable options?

You need specialized equipment to mine coins these days, like ASIC rigs. And more importantly you’ll need access to cheap energy/electricity.

Mining on phones today is generally not profitable mobile devices are too slow and inefficient compared to dedicated hardware, and electricity or wear-and-tear often outweighs gains. It’s usually better to explore low-cost cloud mining or staking for real value.

The only mining you can do on your phone is the specialized app type like pokemon or some game where you earn crypto for doing stuff

There is no real chain mining doable on phones.

Since i am in the music streaming business and switched to phone boxes i do have A LOT of phones that do have downtime daily. Is it still viable/possible to mine crypto currency with them? I dont mean any scam app, but actually mine something that is worth it? I dont care which coin it is as long as it has value that later can be switched to something else.

Thank you for your thoughts,

Your phone may have low specifications, making it difficult to earn money with cryptocurrency. You could consider shifting your focus to social media marketing services instead.

It is technically possible to mine crypto with phones, but it is not economically viable in 2026.
Smartphones have very low hash power compared to even entry level GPUs or ASICs. Mining algorithms that are still CPU friendly like RandomX will generate extremely small returns on mobile ARM chips. In most cases, the electricity cost exceeds the value mined. Even if you ignore electricity because the phones are already powered, the wear on batteries and hardware will degrade the devices faster than the coins earned.
Most profitable networks have high difficulty and are dominated by industrial scale miners. Niche low difficulty coins can be mined on phones, but liquidity is usually low and converting to stable assets can be difficult. You also face overheating, throttling, and potential account bans if devices are linked to other platform activity.
If you already operate phone boxes, the more rational monetization route is bandwidth sharing, app based micro tasks, testing networks, or other compute rental models rather than proof of work mining. Pure phone mining is no longer competitive at scale.

you can try mining monero or some other cpu-only coin
