Minimizing footprints while building backlinks

I am really struggling to understand what exactly is footprints and how to minimize them.
Like, maybe I am wrong but from what I understand not getting the domain at the same date is important, but what I really don't understand is the ip address.
Do I need to use vpn / proxy in order to build a backlink?
What else do I need to watch out?

It's not your own IP, it's the server IP where the website gonna be hosted,
So, you won't need any kind of proxies or VPNs while building a PBN,
