Minify problem with W3 total cache

Hi guys, i'm using W3 total cache on my wordpress websites and i have a problem when using minify: the 2 minified files have huge "wait" times (>2sec in pingdom).
So in the end it is slower when I use minify than when I keep my 20s .js and .css ...
Any idea how to fix this ? I'd really like to merge these .css and .js into 2 files, but it has to be faster obviously

I am using WP Super Cache instead with mod_rewrite engine on and cloudflare with full optimizations and it works like a charm.

thanks, will consider this option if nobody comes up with a fix for W3

I use "quick cache".

Ive had problems with w3 (killed my site and I couldnt get it back lol!).

With quick cache, you just install it and thats it - no changing settings or anything - just the way i like it.

out of curiosity, I checked that against w3 and someone has done comparisons here:

I had problems with WP 3 Total cache initially. If you search goggle for W3 Total Cache settings you should find some hints.

Will first try to fix W3 as it seems to be quicker when set up right, thanks for your help anyway
