Mini Case Study: Using Adsense and Affiliate Ads on the Same Site Negatively Effecting Me?

I was looking at a few new amazon sites I have and wondering something yesterday, would it be more profitable for me to remove my adsense ads off my amazon affiliate sites
I used three sites as an example.

Site #1 - Has 3 amazon affiliate links for a product review page with no adsense. 10,000 monthly traffic, $150 a month amazon avg revenue
Site #2 - Has 3 amazon affiliate links for a product (3 adsense ads per product page aswell) 5,000 monthly traffic $70 monthly amazon avg revenue ($10 adsense revenue)
Site #2 - 0 amazon affiliate links (Information niche) 60,000 uniques monthly traffic $120 month (adsense revenue)


This is a ridiculously biased example because the performance depends on the content I wrote, the niche, conversion for the niche and product etc. But its all I have. What I have gathered through looking at these is the adsense revenue has become very small per unique in this day and age. This may be due to an estimated 35% of people using popup blockers so your losing a large percentage of revenue but its getting to a point where the extra screen realestate the page poaches may not be worth the effort.

The adsense ads I have on site #2 take up 5 times more screen real-estate then my amazon affiliate links so I am assuming they also take up more visual time from the reader and distract them from my content and from clicking the amazon ads themselves.

Hypothesis: Removing all adsense ads from site #2 will increase amazon affiliates revenue above the revenue I would be losing from adsense ($10) Due to the fact that the adsense ads are distracting and taking away my visitors for pennies .30 cents per click (and the distraction and amateurish feel of the ads on the site itself)

I am going to try a split test and remove the ads this month and see the difference in *revenue per click. If anyone has already done any testing like this or has any advice on this please feel free to chime in!!!!

Look, I work with niche sites, both Adsense and Amazon.

If you have some products niche like baby chairs, kitchen accessories and something that you can sell to your visitors, always use Amazon, because you will get 3-4% sales ration if you have Google traffic, and you will get the same click ration on Adsense and you will make 10 times less money.

If you can't sell any other product in your niche like ebooks, products, subscriptions... use Adsense, because you can get some money with it, but not much.

You can always add Google search button and Google adsense links to your site to make some income.

My question was more about the harm of using both, for example the adsense ads distracting from you amazon ads and reducing their conversion greatly.

But to your response I realize some products are much better suited to product sales comisionas I actually have a product niche for example diamond rings with a very large cost per product and clicks and some people are not willing to make that type of purchase online(especially in 24 hours) so in that regards sometimes just adsense would work for a product like that.

Like you can see, Amazon is always better than adsense. But you could run a split test and remove adsense periodically to see the difference. I would personally feel you would get adsense clicks from people who may have otherwise just left your website. So having both may just be okay.

Ranking wise, I don't see anyway having both on your site could hurt you. It could only affect your earnings in my opinion but curious to see what happens
