Milliseconds differences in page loading, and affects on SEO

I understand that page load speed is a factor in SEO. I have a favourite web host of mine, who are a small scale operation who are based in a neighboring state. I basically like them because their customer service has always been excellent. Also they offer ASP.NET web hosting which I need from time to time.

I pinged my website today (which is hosted with them) and got an average of 30ms.

I then pinged the home page of a large web hosting company in the same state as me. The ping was an average of 13ms. So there was a 17ms difference on average in page load speeds.

My question is, would this difference in milliseconds have a significant impact on my local SEO, and should I consider moving hosts? Or is 17ms so negligible that I don't need to worry about it?

Sorry, but this doesn't answer my question at all. Can anybody else help?

17ms is quite a difference, page speed does play a role for seo purposes but it also plays a role in costumer retention and bounce rates. If a site is slow, your potential traffic might click away or lose patience, either way I think switching would be a better option.

I have noticed some local accommodation providers in the local 3 packs persist who have upgraded their wordpress themes to the latest full width parallax scrolling ones have slowed their site loading down.

It doesn't seem to affect their ranking at all.

End of the day a judgement has to be made. Will google penalise much better quality over speed loading? Provided it doesn't go over a certain threshold then maybe all is ok?

That said I notice google are putting low quality KW stuffed sites in the snack packs in my verticals. Its like the recent updates stepped back in time 4 years........

you need to count seconds, not milliseconds. If the loading time is over 6 seconds I would look for the ways to optimize website or to change the server.
