There are people, such as myself, that will not install Windows 10 because of the excessive telemetry and spyware the operating system has built into it. Rather than do the proper thing, which would be to remove the telemetry from Windows 10, Microsoft is now infecting Windows 7, 8, 8.1 with spyware through the windows update service. Two of the updates have been rolled out in the past and one is rolling out now that will insert the same telemetry and user tracking into W7-W8.1 that Windows ten has baked in. These updates are KB3075249, KB3080149 and KB3068708.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3075249
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3080149
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3068708

KB3068708 is the telemetry update that is rolling out now; the other two have already rolled out.

These particular updates ignore user settings and the hosts file, and send user information to Microsoft without regard to the user preferences and settings, and other evasive measures. Presently the three updates can be uninstalled which allows the user to keep his/her privacy. If the updates are uninstalled, they should also be hidden so that they will not later be reinstalled.

I won't install windows 10 either, they look really desperate telling you to upgrade free, and there should be a shady reason for being so insistent.

You guys better try to understand what stuffs do and don't do , hardly believe microsoft or any other damn company really needs to know your porn movies you have saved on your computers , or dirty pics and so on ... '' they '' don't care , easy as that ! What they care , it's to fight how they can with priated copyes of their OS and property :) ... that's another story ... Thing is easy to understand ... if you don't wanna pay for OS , or if you can't afford ... get any linux distro ( most of things what you can do with an windows computer you can do most probably better with ubuntu most probably for example ) . So called '' spywares '' from win10 are just lame ways Microsoft monkeys been trying to imitate what apple did already for example cortana and hello features .

I wonder if in future they are going to try and police the internet the way authorities do the streets.

Example, In the UK if you are caught dropping a cigarette butt, chewy wrapper etc on the street you get fined around £60. Vandalism incurs a fine, taking a leak in a public area incurs a fine. These are all things that usually don't incur a jail sentence simply because thousands of people commit these so called crimes every day all over the country. Fines are often given out without any need to go to court, you get issued a fine and you pay it or go to court and probably lose your case and end up with a bigger fine.

I wonder if that's the way the internet is going - millions of people pirate movies, music, and whatever else you can think of, all of these people cant be jailed its impossible, so hitting each person with a small fine when they are caught pirating content would maybe put them off doing it again and make the powers that be millions, probably more that the content itself will ever make in its lifetime.

I renamed Appinfo.dll and Consent.exe. I had the devils own time getting the computer into a mode that I could rename them back.

This is what happened: anything that required elevated permissions to function no longer worked. No Task Manager, No renaming files in the system32 directory, and so on.

As far as MS not caring about anything but their own software. I have serious doubts. Governments around the world are complaining about disk encryption. All the information on your disk is sent to Microsoft; this includes reversible hashes of your passwords. All a government has to do is contact MS and with the right procedures the entity you want to keep out of your computer now has full access to it.

dude , '' elevated permisions '' in windows ( actually in any damn OS ) ain't meaning you have to mess up with files from the system , they aren't intended to delete/modify/copy/decompile ... IF you need a bare metal OS I highly suggest to get yourself an kernel ( any version ) and just build your own OS if you really need to protect so important files on your computer . Windows like OS is meant to be and is made to be an '' easy '' way for '' everyone '' to can interact with a machine , in this case with your computer . IS MADE FOR LAME peoples , that's reality that's their whole business , that's why Gates made hes fortune , he simply started to write a code based on MS-DOS , since MS-DOS been hard to '' peoples '' to interact with computers that particular dude being an opportunist see a '' niche '' , developed a damn product and sold / rent it that's all ... if you need or you wanna to modify and mess with hes work that's your thing not the company fault :) ...
So , paranoid features like goverment need to '' know '' wtf you have on a system is easy to fix it , just umplug your damn machine from any network , load a damn kernel ( anything from MS-DOS to linux kernels ) and build yourself an OS or just use console if makes you happy . It's normal when you mess with systems features and dependencies some stuffs to not work ( like task manager ) . Actually system32 folder is OFF LIMITS for anyone to delete / modify / rename / decompile ... most of the OS core files are stored there damn it .

About micorsoft getting all information's from your disk is totally bollox , just think is this terms take any random 100K peoples from anywhere on the world , count for each of them let's say 10 gb of dirty pics , movies , files and anything you can imaginate ... what do you think microsoft or anyone else will do with such infos ? :)) THEY DON'T GIVE A DAMN . Ofcourse like I said , is normal for them to monitory their licensed softwares , to keep track of who is using their WORK ... and that's pretty damn normal !

About those '' reversible hashes of your passwords '' , I`m sorry to disappoint you BUT, until now such rumors are just that , rumors ! your computer when is running windows have ability to use an user based environment ( and that's normal to be able to be protected by a password ) , it's true ... most of the time those passwords are just worthless ( someone with little bit of knowledge can pass them thru ) , New versions of windows OS ( win 8 and win 10 ) can even use microsoft accounts to log into OS , and there are some pretty nasty stuffs going on ( but if you preffer just switch your log in to local username - some of the features will not be available for your username after that ) ... Still ... storing and confirming hashes of the password's is NORMAL for the unlock process !

At the end of the day , even if '' government '' need to know , or request access to someone system I highly doubt any random deputy or senator from your '' government '' can do that , most probably law enforcement can investigate and in case they need proofs of anything illegal all companies must do everything they can to accommodate the law , STILL that's not an issue here , since those guys aren't doing anything illegal , you can see it like an search warrant lol . IF law enforcement from your country really need to see your gf tities selfies , or you doing sex with a goat ... :) THEY ARE CURIOUS ! :) HELP THEM !

sending out fines ( in terms of millions probably yeah ) , will be looong long way most probably ! ... what most companies can do at the moment they just '' try '' to stop peoples abusing them ( like movies pirated you can't play , or the listening devices to '' stop '' working while you play pirated versions ... same with games ... ) ... and part of this process is to build more controlling OS's ( like apple control their OS to every bit possible ... ) microsoft starting to do since some time ...
Still peoples being paranoid about '' government '' seeking their so called '' private files '' =)) it's just hilarious ...

I think alot of people are just in the closet about their bisexuality and don't want the world to know all the homosexual and transexual porn they are looking at. The government doesn't actually care what your downloading even if its non licensed, they are only concerned about a certain kind of material like what Jared Fogle was into.

I laughed so hard at this. I actually wound up choking on my sandwich. You nearly killed me.

Anyway, I don't see what the big deal is. People are so obsessed with hiding their personal information and going off the grid. Your government has been spying on you since it was created. Companies have been doing the same thing. Apple spies on everyone. Google spies on everyone. Of course Microsoft is going to spy on everyone. They're no different than any other technology company on the planet.

Your information is worth money: your computer habits, your purchasing habits, what you download, Google or watch online. Companies pay money for that. You buy a PC, or a Mac, or an Android device, you subject yourself to Windows, Google and Apple spying on you. You don't like it, go back to pen and paper or word of mouth.

It's the way the cookie crumbles. Technology means easier access to everything, and that includes your info.

It's free because Windows 10 isn't the product, the consumers are the product that Microsoft is selling (to god only knows how many buyers).

Being a smart ass, how long have you worked for Microsoft.

Being less of a smartass, how much of your Windows based software works in BSD, Linux, or OSX? Incidently, OSX is Mach 3 Unix.

Being even less of a smartass, name me a single *nix feature development system comparable to Visual Studio. I use versions 2015 and 2013. Neither Eclipse, Netbeans, or Code Warrior cut it.

Being even less of a smartass than before, name me a *nix feature complete office suite comparable to MS Office. I use Office 2013. Libre Office just does not cut it.

On the other hand, I can find no Windows equivalent for most of the tools in Kali Linux.

You use the proper tool for the job. If that tool is Windows, then that is what you use; if the tool is Linux or Unix, that is what you use. I am not an OS purist, I recognize each tool has its advantages and disadvantages. If I have work to do, I will mostly use Windows. If I want to tinker with the OS, or work on system security, then I use Kali.

It is strange. I have pretty much every crime kit there is on my computer, and a large number of viruses. Every once in a while I receive a notice that I am infected with so and so. I tell them, but of course I have so and so, I have the source code. Throws them for a loop, too. However, those files are in an encrypted Virtual machine that is never online - I remove the Ethernet cable before I boot the VM.

In addition to using Windows as my primary OS, unless I have a reason not to, my cell phones are Windows phones. I have never synced them to anything. I have had occasion to have to replace the phone on a few occasions such as a stolen phone. I boot the phone to my hotmail account and the phone downloads all of my current information. Want to know why I use Windows phones? I use them because they are more secure than the Linux derived Android OS. So here to, I will have to disagree with your assumptions.

There are a few things that you do not know. You should spend more time learning what you do not know, than showing people what you do not know.

Does the term "data mining" means anything to you? How about you stfu and stop trying to be a smart-ass on a topic you don't have the slightest clue in.

People concerned about its privacy and security should be strongly advised against using Windows.

Even more, when there's a PROVEN track record of stealth updates, privacy leaks, zero-day vulnerabilities exploited by many three-letter agencies and a vast ocean of malwares ready to exploit this broken o.s. insecure by design.

There's no use in being paranoid, but you certainly need to know who you're dealing with.

I'm using windows 10 and got few issues still.
The very main issue is with Graphic Card Drivers, it ain't available for 10.
    Another issue is with Anti-Virus.
