Microsoft is shutting down Skype in May

Microsoft is often shutting their social projects down, no long term plans

I'm not surprised because there are so many alternatives now and I don't think people use skype

they can shut it down, but keep the data in our account while they move us to teams, all good

To hell with Teams... It slows my phone and drains battery af, it's like malware or something. Each time I have to install it for a call, I uninstall immediately after.

I am still using Skype for chat support. Teams is not my favorite, tried it during the pandemic time, but it was not as simple as Skype.

Big news sites started reporting it. Some companies are already switching to Teams.
/me not worried at all, who started using instant messaging with IRC, back in 1990-ies.

July 31, 2021, Microsoft retired Skype for Business Online.
This retirement was announced in July 2019 to give customers two years advance notice to plan their upgrades to Microsoft Teams

Unless those "companies" you speak of weren't using E365, then sure...

I had used it so much for the last 20 years. Been 5 years (since i changed job) that i dont use it anymore. I used to get prospects there and provided customer support. Wow ... been a part of my life
Same when icq died ... used that A LOT .. damn i am old !

Seems there must be lots of people interested in this on the BBC site.

Skype was already dead to me. I never used it. 10 years ago sellers in the marketplace seemed to not understand when I refused to use it to talk to them.

Telegram is the best

Microsoft teams is an absolute nightmare... I thought microsoft bought discord, seems not really.

Pay my homage to skype as it was the first thing in b/w the first dollar i made online and bhw. It was great journey, but shifted to telegram a long ago so won't miss it much.

And all there skype database will be trashed? What a shame....arent they going to integrate the database atleast in teams or smth like that?

Sad to see but it was inevitable.

Although I don't know anyone personally who had Skype after Microsoft acquired it.

Many years of using the mooning and swearing emoji back when I was a lil fella and thinking I was hot shit.

:(
