Microsoft has announced if copilot uses video content for MSN creators they’ll get paid for the usages. At a time when all are just scraping the content Microsoft has taken a bold approach and is ready to pay creators which is a huge deal. This was during their MSN partner summit so official details will roll out but I feel this could have a domino effect if all Ai companies pay every time they use our content then decoying traffic wouldn’t hurt right

This is a strong move, and while there’s no payment details they usually pay for seconds consumed x market rate. And for now copilot is their client, imagine getting chatgpt, Claude and Grok on board (they’re already in Microsoft 365 copilot except Grok) so yea it’s positive move.
 
2 questions:

1) are they going to pay just like insurance companies pay their victims (ie. they find legal loopholes not to pay them)?
2) how are the creators ever going to find out that their content is being stolen used? Or, rather, how are the creators going to prove against MS's legion of lawyers that their content had been stolen used?

There won’t be any loopholes, I believe it’ll show up in their Msn creators dashboard or in a breakup of their revenues.

They announced this plan at their 2025 summit and from what I saw shared by their partners it’s in beta with selected publishers.

And tbh they could have used it without paying but they decided to be transparent and reward creators.

Plus I now use MSN more cause of free rewards and I like the improvements in copilots and creators being supported is a bonus for me, I’m yet pissed how creators, publishers lost traffic due to AI without any compensation
 
Hello everyone, I am a software developer and I have something powerful called Stuxnet.
 
Interesting start.

Although Microsoft is opening a can of worms by paying for any usage of video content, they're in some ways setting a precedent that derivative works are owed a royalty.

I'm betting they'll have a video submission process where anyone who submits is qualified to get a royalty but also agrees to a length terms that gives MS the right to determine what and even if they're compensated.
