That's not really surprizing given the fact that Microsoft invested about 1 Billion dollars in OpenAI in 2019.

I know, but I expected that the Google will lunch one of their AI models first..

Finally. That's what we need. I hope it's going to be a very, very tough time for Google, and I hope that we as users benefit from it.

They lose tons of Adsense revenue and are 2nd to market after Bing. Not the first time, though.

It's just the start and G will answer accordingly. I think we are seeing here a disruptive change how SEs work, at least and only fow now for simpler questions. It is right now only answering 90 % correctly is not a thing, imho.

What are you doing if you don't find in the SERP what you are looking for? SEs can now answer your question, replicate and adapt, SEs can fact-check against their top SERPs and verify the answer of the language model. They might provide an immediate easy-to-use answer, accompanied by a probability how correct the answer is. For questions in the class "how long does a hard boiled egg take" (and partially do already, just a sample) they can provide a almost 100% correct answer. No need to look on the SERP. Sufficient for many cases, right? Or giving already a first orientation. "How quantum mechanic works in easy words" difficult with SERPs, not with advanced LMs. What is coming after ChatGPT (GPT 3.5)? What about persisting/caching the correct answer to reduce computational costs? What about answering many things and only leaving complicated questions to the user/SERPs?

I am sure that very soon a political and serious debate will start about copyrights - not about the literal word, but about facts and information. At least I really hope so, including new laws and regulation.

I love me some competition for Google. Let's get this going Microsoft and Bing.
 
My expectations was that Microsoft would adopt this as part of their Bing search. But I don't see any stiff competition for Google. By that I mean they can't eat up more than 10% of their search share.
 
Could be interesting market share grab but I dont see google being too long behind with their own models
